No offense to Richard but my daughter just ain't buying it! But it did show me that she is actually listening to his songs when I drag her and her sister to his shows! : ) Non Richard content: my daughters were in Target today going into the dressing room and overheard two salesgirls mention "If I Wrote You" and they both looked at each other and said, "Dar!" Neither one are fans of her but their mom is and I guess they are actually listening to her songs when I play them! Plus, I just got my FRFF pix back and one is with me and Dar! A nice surprise on a saturday afternoon. Enough of me, Janet Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo! Johnson" Subject: [RS] comments on Richard's long island show (16 August) I was also at Richard's LI show. In a word, it was sublime. It made me remember why I like Richard's music so much. And it was free!!! The highlights for me were (1) "Nora" (In case you didn't know, I love that song), (2) The new song.. will this one be called "love"?..., (3) "Transit", his performance on that was the best I've heard yet, and (4) "Confession". "Love" and "Mary M." done on the electric guitar. Richard mentioned that he last played the electric guitar in public sometime around 1980 when he played with Gorka in college. Someone asked for "Calling the Moon". Richard said "I can't do that one. I might mess it up". Lots of calls for "Lazy", I guess Richard wasn't. A couple calls for "Cold Missouri Waters" and I think Richard said he would get to it(he didn't). The encore was "Wisteria". Richard also confessed to being a Yes head in his youth. Richard called "Willin", the best trucking song he's heard. Then he said something like "Now, I'll be foolish and follow it with my own trucking song (kenworth)". "Arrowhead" was played moderately quickly, "Reunion Hill" moderately slowly, not as slow as he's done it of late but slower than on the album. Thanks RonD for the publicity and whatever else you did to bring in Richard. Thanks Gene and Isabelle for the ride back to the train station. It contains important Richard (and Ron G.) content. Jeff - ---------------- Begin Forwarded Message ---------------- Hi Gang- A couple of very cool things have just happened in the midst of this fairly hot summer and we want to give you a couple of quick updates. First-we have just added a second show with TOM RUSSELL AND ANDREW HARDIN at 6:00 on August 26th. This will be the ONLY New York area appearance by the guys as they hit the road to promote Tom's great new album "Borderland". It is a huge honor to be a part of an album release tour by an artist such as Tom. This is a show that's nearly equal parts Tom's brilliant singing, songwriting, and storytelling, and Andy's incredible artistry on the guitar-a show not to miss. Second-we got an e-mail the other day that nearly fried our hard drive it was such a surprise. CLAUDIA MARSHALL from WFUV (we know we don't have to say any more than that!) sent along an e-mail telling us about the good things she's been hearing about this place (thank you thank you to whoever was talking to Claudia) and that she'd love to help us out in any way possible. She even said she'd love to host our DARDEN SMITH show on September 30. Well if you look in Ripley's Believe It Or Not, you'll see that the fastest time for an e-mail reply is now held by us!! We've got Claudia coming out to host a show by one of the very best singer-songwriters around. It should be a great day-a chance to meet Claudia and find out all about WFUV (the greatest outlet in the area-and maybe the country-for acoustic music) AND a chance to hear one of Texas' best-Darden Smith. Third-this won't take long. Save October 21 for a very special day here at Cabin Concerts. For two shows, at 3:00 and 6:00, we'll be able to present one more great afternoon of music with RICHARD SHINDELL! We really have to thank you for being able to have shows like this. Your enthusiastic response to what we do has made it so that a little place like this can actually compete with the real clubs around. Because Richard's had some good times here before he'll grace us once again. If you check his itinerary you'll quickly see that house concerts have, rightly so, virtually disappeared from Richard's tour schedule. Folks-this is really a rare opportunity to see a guy who's at the top, or near the top, of ANY list of the best songwriters working today. Once again we had to up the ante a bit for this show. We'll be asking for $25 per person paid in advance. As always, all the money goes to Richard and we'll be trying to make this as good a payday for him as a place this size can do. As Richard's star continues to rise the odds of this ever happening again are diminishing drastically-the wise know what to do here (Ron G.-relax, you're down for both shows!) So if you're looking for something to do around 6:00 next sunday we've given you an option. We've also given you yet another reason to come out to see Darden on the 30th of September. And we've taken care of sunday October 21 for many of you. And finally-our friends at the Turning Point have booked a show for September 16 with two of our favorites-Lynn Miles and Mark Erelli will share a bill for a show not to be missed. Also check out the new fall schedules for The Outpost In The Burbs and The Friends of Music In Middletown-they are both incredible schedules!!! And for those of you living up north-or willing to travel to a couple of great clubs--A fabulous new club has opened in Woodstock. It's called the Colony Arts Center-a beautifully restored 1930's ish place-and it's presenting great acoustic music. On September 1st our buddy Tom Pacheco will be there. They also do open mike nights on tuesdays-check it out. And lastly-our buddy Mark Morganstern who runs the Rosendale Cafe in Rosendale, NY (this place really is worth the drive!) will be presenting two of Texas' best singer-songwriters (and these guys don't make it up here often-don't miss these chances). On September 7 Ray Wylie Hubbard will be at the Cafe and on November 10 Eric Taylor will be there. These are two legends not to be missed!
