I can't seem to post to Dar-List lately. My posts keep bouncing. Anyone know of any good shows coming up in San Francisco or Portland, Oregon? Larry and I are heading out there from 8/25-9/9. Or if anyone would like to hook up, let me know backchannel! I also have a play up in NYC this weekend. Let me know if you'd like more info on that too. RonG, I see you snickering! ;-) Seriously, though, Thirty Odd Foot of Grunts is maybe not the best band in the world, and maybe Russell doesn't sing quite as well as our own Richard, but they are a sweet-sounding Aussie folk band and Hell, I like 'em. And it involves Russell Crowe. So there. :-) They are playing "Sail Those Same Oceans (Stay Awake)" as I type. It's glorious, is what it is. Just glorious. I think I'm gonna go play my autographed copy of "Bastard Life or Clarity," Russell's latest CD. (I got to meet him in the spring!) Maybe someone is emailing them to play more quality music and they are actually listening? Janet Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo! Wills" Subject: [RS] wfuv advertising C'mon--they gotta make a buck somehow... I don't mean to be rude or combative, BUT, if you don't like advertising on WFUV, why not call them up and offer to pay them more than whatever the other guy's paying them to keep the advertisers off the air? It's really too much to ask that one station not gear itself to a wider, i.e. more mainstream listenership thereby increasing its base of prospective subscribers AND that it also not take the money required to run a station wherever they can get it. Unless you're equipped to offer them a ready solution. That said, Yes, I do think that Elton John on WFUV is a pretty bad thing, and something to be avoided at all costs. I guess my point is, it makes all the sense in the world not to subscribe to a station you just don't like anymore. But I think asking that a station not use legitimate means of supporting itself that don't pose any necessary conflict with the nature of the music played on that station is unreasonable. Just my two cents, for whatever that's worth.
