Wills" > Funnily enough, at the Emelin, before the show actually started, they did a whole bit in which they recorded the audience doing nothing but applauding. First, nice, quiet, clapping . . . no hoots or whistles. Then a little more intense. Then on and on until "OK, now bring down the rafters." So I'm guessing they'd be able to splice-and-dice just about any which way they'd want. RG ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 1 Aug 2001 20:01:18 -0400 (EDT) From: "Vanessa C. Honestly, it took all the self-restraint in the world for me not to run up to her when I saw her in front of Sunflower pizza and say "You're so great, you're so great, you're so great." And now I realize I totally should have. It really is amazing how expresive and artistic those ASL interpreters are--_especially_ Jodi. I loved her interpretation of a Black woman giving somebody attitude in sign language--she had the audience practically rolling in the aisles. I still remember last year at the workshop when Richard was totally entranced by her signing his songs. And he wasn't alone--I can't begin to count how often my attention is captured by Jodi's signing. It really is beautiful. Seriously, the ASL interpreters are a _big_ factor for my group of Falcon Ridging friends. They are beautiful to watch--a complex language system meets pantomime meets great sensitivity meets modern dance meets fluidity and subtlety in movement. It's amazing. The ASL interpreters are, I think, at least as much of a treat for hearing audience-members as they are for the deaf Falcon Ridge-goers. On Wed, 1 Aug 2001, Norman A. I think that was the moment when I felt the community aspect of Falcon Ridge most profoundly. Everyone being able to take part in the music in exactly the same way. I'm still coming down off that high. I love that what the ASL interpreters do can be appreciated by even those of us with only limited familiarity/facility with ASL.
