While I'm certainly not a linguist of any sort, I know Spanish is the universal tongue in Argentina, though there is a hybrid dialect spoken in parts of the country. The word "Abuelita," in fact, is part of that dialect. Aren't I just FILLED with information these days? Although I had the news about Lucy/Buddy & Julie Miller reversed. They are rumored to be possibly sitting in on some of Lucy's set, not vice versa. Mea Culpa. Here'a another tidbit: Lucy's new album is finito! It will be out in August. Stupidly, she told us its title this past Wednesday and I've already forgotten it. Janet, Gene, Sharon, Robin, Isabel, can any of you remember what she said it was? What's that? You mean this isn't the Lucy List? Oops, sorry about that... RememberinRon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 May 2001 08:52:42 -0400 (EDT) From: Kelly Fairbairn Subject: Re: [RS] Si, si. The word > "Abuelita," in fact, is part of that dialect. I always just thought abuelita was just the familiar, affectionate way of saying abuela--not necessarily a part of a separate dialect. I've heard it used by Spanish speakers from Spain and from Latin America. But then again, I'm not exactly an expert either and there's a good possibility that I'm wrong. kelly, hasn't seen Richard since NFF last year but has been listening to Spring on repeat for the past few weeks. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 May 2001 09:00:20 -0400 From: Graham Gudgin Subject: [RS] Re: Rats 'n Rumors ReportinRon said: At 04:55 AM 5/18/2001 -0400, you wrote: >Date: Thu, 17 May 2001 07:05:37 EDT >From: RockinRonD@aol.com >Subject: [RS] Rats, Rumors and Rings > >In a message dated 5/16/2001 12:19:26 AM Eastern Daylight Time, Tricia >responded to the supposed plot afoot on this list to convince the world that >Richard's move to Argentina was wearing him out hence he should move back to >the U.S.: > > <<> On my part, just making list conversation, reporting a bit on a > > Richard show. > > No agenda here.>> > > > > Indeed. The observations are fine - what I was referring to was the surprising number of posts that made an observation....THEN speculated that it might be evidence that the move was bad for Richard. Think about it...He looks a little thin - must be fatigue (in fact, he's running on the beach and is actually getting HEALTHIER!)...economy's bad in Argentina - perhaps that'll mean he'll be back soon.....he sat down for a show - poor guy must be tired from all that hard travellin'...and so on. Incidentally, it was the sitting vs. standing post that was "the straw that broke the camel's back" and prompted me to post. The truth is, Richard moved so his wife could pursue her career - we've got to applaud the man for supporting her like that. Who are we to say that he shouldn't enjoy his life in Argentina AND enjoy a different way of touring in the US (in short bursts, rather than non-stop every night). I'd also be interested to know if there is a music scene close to Richard's new home, and whether that might have an effect on his music. Has anyone asked him that? Finally, has anyone noticed that both my wife (Becky) and I have suddenly started posting on this list, after an absence of forever..........I wonder what that could mean? ;) Graham. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 May 2001 09:23:26 +0000 From: Charlie of Young/Hunter Subject: [RS] Mysterious Mr. Campbell Yo, Listers... And (unless I'm totally mistaken) Larry was there playing the guitar and I kept on thinking how weird that is cuz for me he is conected to Richard, not Dylan. you know, like - the picture is wrong, there should be somebody else at Larry's side :) Dylan plays in the town I went to high school at this summer. I wonder if Larry is along for that show. If so, I should go and wear my Richard shirt and stand in the front row :) Katrin Ps: coincidentially WUMB is playing Cold Missouri Waters right now. At least we get to see Larry play over here in Britain (Dylan seems to be on tour here every other month). I went to one of the recent Wembley shows (whisper it quietly....mainly to see Larry). He had all the instruments set up around him including pedal steel, bouzouki, fiddle, but in the end only touched the guitar and mandolin. Still worth every penny though.....Dylan was OK too. Any up-to-the-minute plans to bring Richard this side of the Blue Divide? We're still waiting patiently!
