I've heard her live and liked her, but I have one of her CDs and like her more after listening to the CD. I don't know if she's one of those people who is better on CD than live, or if she was little off the day I saw her live, or if I was a little off that day, or what. In any case, John, I think you'll enjoy her. - --Laurel ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Mar 2001 19:31:14 -0400 From: "Young/Hunter Mgt." WAKKO'S AMERICA Music traditional (Turkey in the Straw). Lyrics by Randy Rogel. Wakko: Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Indianapolis, Indiana And Columbus is the capital of Ohio There's Montgomery, Alabama, south of Helena, Montana Then there's Denver, Colorado, under Boise, Idaho. Texas has Austin, then we go north To Massachusetts' Boston, and Albany, New York Tallahassee, Florida, and Washington, D.C. Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Nashville, Tennessee. Elvis used to hang out there a lot, ya know. Trenton's in New Jersey, north of Jefferson, Missouri You've got Richmond in Virginia; South Dakota has Pierre Harrisburg's in Pennsylvania and Augusta's up in Maine And here is Providence, Rhode Island, next to Dover, Delaware. Concord, New Hampshire, just a quick jaunt To Montpelier, which is up in Vermont Hartford's in Connecticut, so pretty in the fall And Kansas has Topeka; Minnesota has St Paul. Juneau's in Alaska and there's Lincoln in Nebraska And it's Raleigh out in North Carolina and then There's Madison, Wisconsin, and Olympia in Washington Phoenix, Arizona, and Lansing, Michigan. Here's Honolulu; Hawaii's a joy Jackson, Mississippi, and Springfield, Illinois South Carolina with Columbia down the way And Annapolis in Maryland on Chesapeake Bay. They have wonderful clam chowder. Cheyenne is in Wyomin' and perhaps you make your home in Salt Lake City out in Utah, where the Buffalo roam Atlanta's down in Georgia, and there's Bismarck, North Dakota And you can live in Frankfort in your old Kentucky home. Salem in Oregon; from there we join Little Rock in Arkansas; Iowa's got Des Moines Sacramento, California; Oklahoma and its city Charleston, West Virginia, and Nevada, Carson City. I did so by introducing the idea of doing an RS song to the lead singer billy at a rehearsal by playing him a tape of richard doing the song in question live, which, in my opinion, is richard at his best, and always will be. the next week, when we gathered to rehearse again, billy said to me, "okay, i bought Somewhere Near Paterson and Reunion Hill - that's all they had. What others should i buy?" for those of us of the pre-napster generation (and let's be honest, the pre-internet generation), tapes of live performances, above all, foster respect for the artist, and lead to the never-ending maniacal quest to obtain *everything* ever released by the same. as far as announcing the offer of a show on a list: again, there is a generational/cultural dichotomy. way before free email, banner ads, and anything resembling anything that flashes infected the internet, groups of people with similar interests got together and traded live music freely, with the artist's permission. money never exchanged hands, and sales of official releases never suffered. in fact, i would argue sales benefitted (and charlie, my hat's off to you) because forward thinking labels offered new releases to list members weeks before new cds showed up in stores, creating a buzz and an unanticipated marketing bonanza. in my experience, musicians who are cool with audience taping understand that the music will spread. soundboards are another matter. if an artist doesn't want the show to circulate, there is an implicit understanding that if recorded, it won't. and if it does, the onus is on you. - - eric ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Mar 2001 08:28:51 GMT From: dgmckay@cwcom.net Subject: [RS] CDs & Denice Franke > Some of us have not > yet forgotten another recent debaucle with a "pre-release" > Limited Edition CD. Boy was that a mess. Although, some people > ended up buying one and getting one free so maybe I should just > be quiet. Hee Hee! Some of us didn't even buy the first one, but got it, and a replacement, anyway! This part of the whole affair I'd personally like to see replicated when Richard's new CD comes out ... ;-) > Any body familiar with Denice Franke? > http://www.denicefranke.com/ > She's opening for Richard at the Freight & Salvage on May 10th. Yep. She's one c-r-a-z-y woman, with a sense of humour which makes the description "dry" seem wholly inadequate! :-) Dave. ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V3 #108 ***********************************
