I've been a richard fan since the fast folk days... can't recall for sure, but I believe the courier was the first rs song I ever heard. I live in the middle of PA, not exactly a hotbed for acoustic music, but headed east to catch the show at outpost in the burbs, which I truly enjoyed. Don't know how much we all share here, I just glanced at a few of the archives posts, but I'm pushing hard on 40, an art director at an ad agency here, a half-assed songwriter, playwrite, play a little guitar, yada yada... musically, I'm all over the board, but a good rule of thumb is if it sounds like you could picture a guy sitting on a front porch with a glass of ice tea and writing it, I'll probably like it. Instead of trying to name my influences, I'll just mention some of the artists whose discs are within arm's reach here- other than richard and lucy... david olney, townes van zandt, tom russell, iain matthews, johnny cash (the excellent ride this train bear family set)... Anyway, looking forward to talking to y'all. Jim Colbert ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Feb 2001 19:55:23 -0500 From: "Norman A. Cheri Knight also put this on her excellent album, THE KNITTER." I don't have Cheri's album and until the other day had not heard Cheri's version. I liked Cheri's version better than the recorded Cry3 one (which I don't care for very much). I did like DBTW when they performed it live-- and of course, was greatly amused by Dar's beaver story.
