When was that supposed to happen again, Gene? :) Ron reported: > After the show, I had the chance to discuss the live CD with Richard, and he > said that it will probably be a 15 or 16 song single-disc release yeah, 15 or 16 songs, I like that! > Vanessa wrote: > "I haven't seen Richard since July, at FRFF, if you can believe > it. Ha, I win: I haven't seen Richard since last year January :) I would see him again in May if he didn't chose to play the same night as Mr. Mulvey, but as it looks I am not sure... decisions, decisions... life is so hard on me sometimes :) Happy Sunday guys, Katrin - -------------------------------------------------------- - If I didn't dream I'd be dead - Peter Mulvey (all in good fun) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Feb 2001 08:54:05 EST From: RockinRonD@aol.com Subject: [RS] Come May I was not able to get to Richard's Outpost show last night since it conflicted with the Folk Music Society of Huntington's Annual Member's Conert. And because I was one of the members performing, I really did have to be there. But in the 15 minutes I had on stage I included both "I Saw My Youth Today" and "By Now" in the set. And when I mentioned Richard's name to the pretty decently-sized audience, there was a smattering of applause. Nice to know Richard has definitely won some fans on Long Island in the last couple of years and I look forward to seeing him here this May. Still, I would have loved to be in New Jersey last night, gig or no gig. I'm envious of you all. We had a wonderful time and I thought the acoustics in that weird little hall were wonderful. I couldn't agree more about Transit.. Up to this point, I though that his Iron Horse performance this past fall with the band, really nailed it, but last nights version seemed transcendent to me. In general, I thought Richard seemed really relaxed and looser then he usually is. Granted, I've only seen him 7 or 8 times but I loved the whole feeling of last's nights show. I like James Keelaghan and obviously, he is a wonderful songwriter but he did the exact same set that he did, the other 4 times that I saw him, with the exception of the encore. With 6 CDs of material you think he would mix things up a bit. I don't mean to be critical but it would be nice to hear some new stuff from him. I envy you for having the chance to see Richard at the late and dearly missed, Reader's feast bookstore. Hartford used to be a much friendlier place to live, when Cheese and Stuff and RF were operating. We had our on little corner of NoHo for a brief, glorious time. At any rate, I enjoyed reading your remarks. I am fairly new to Richard's music, seeing him for the first time with CRY3, 2 years ago at UOFH so I don't feel as if I have much to say on the list but I love reading and have learned a great deal from all of you. I consider this my "getting my feet wet post" so I hope it makes some sense. Take Care, Robin This is the set list for last night. I hope I got everything right. The only thing is, they all said that when they were doing some live recording (yesterday? Friday?) the piano was simply HORRIBLE and they wished (they said) they had been recording last night (in Hartford) instead! Then they said they stayed up half the night playing with the organ in the church. I wanted to say "well if the piano was horrible, please, don't use those recording!" I've lost track, where was this? I've lost track, where was this? (haven't been paying enough attention) >> It was Friday night where they had the piano problems. They'd had a Professional Piano Tuner Guy come in to work on it, but Rad told me that it's not a particularly good piano to start with (but it matches the decor of the room), and that the guy simply hadn't had enough time to get it just right. And during the middle of "Fishing," the piano simply started to drift out of tune, and by the end of the song, was too bad to use any longer that night. So Rad shifted the rest of his piano songs onto the accordian, adding, IMHO, a nice touch to "Mary Magdalene." It did, however, prevent him from participating on the second take of "Fleur-de-Lis." But Richard indicated that there were enough "keepers" from Friday's show that some of them will indeed make the CD . . . among others, "Arrowhead," "Summer Wind/Cotton Dress" and "Sonora's Death Row," if I recall correctly. I've seen her once live, at the tiny Buttonwood Tree in Middletown, and woudl definitely go again. Her CD "Innocent When You Dream" has everything from a Malicorne tune in French ( :)) to a scary Janice Ian song (I think) called "His Hands" to an absolutely lovely rendering of "Now Be Thankful," a Richard Thompson song. (New St. George was kind of like a Fairport tribute band almost -- great CD, they are split now.) I mention this because I was talking to Richard and mentioned sending her a tape of Cynthia Gooding songs (early '60's, low alto like Lisa Moscatiello) and he complimented her, said what a great voice she had, and then told me Greg and Lisa Gutkin were in whirligig too! which I didn't know. Now I really MUST buy one of their CDs, they are still on my "yes, when my allowance has enough in it I will..." (if it weren't for 2 kids and spouse and mortgage and so on...) Write to the above cc address if you want to be on her list and get notified about concerts! Back to Lisa Gutkin, she was really tremendous and added greatly to the songs. I ask myself why it is I mind rad's "tinkling ivories" so much and not her creative counterpoints. Maybe violin just blends in more. Or maybe it's that Rad is so obviously incorporating a kind of jazz piano style and she isn't. Anyway, enough carping, everything worked last night, nothing was intrusive, and Richard was in control of the overall sound. lisa pretending to do her seminar materials... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 04 Feb 2001 15:03:34 -0500 From: "Gene Frey" Subject: [RS] Name The Live Album - Win Valuable Prizes Hey you guys, Well, now that our suggestions for tracks on the live album have been carefully gathered, compiled, and ignored, it's time to play a little game that Isabel, Ron G., and I were playing Friday night at the Outpost show - Name the Live Album Ron G. Offered 'Don't Cry Cry Cry for Me Argentina' while I thought two appropriate choices might be 'Montclair and Mamaroneck' and 'Nowhere Near Buenos Aries.' I look forward to your ideas.
