But I forgot all about covers! Cold Missouri, to be certain. Something Gram Parsons, like Sin City. I think Darkness, Darkness would do nicely with a live treatment. First, I felt for Dar, she looked SO nervous. Secondly, I just bought tickets to see Richard in May and they cost $30 each!! But because it's Richard, I scraped up the money because he is worth it. I paid $20 last September to see him, which I think is a fair amount for a ticket. As to the song suggestion, I would have to say "TV Light", it's my favorite song even though from what I've read on the list, a song he rarely plays live! I'm not positive but I could've sworn he played it at Summerfest in Massachusetts this past July. I REALLY hope that this song gets picked! That's it. Janet Yahoo! Of course I am from Northern NJ where everything seems more expensive....cause I am definitely not made of $$$ Also... I'd love to hear people's thoughts on what songs from SpPt, BD and RH we should try to get on the live album (all performance variables being the same). The plan on the live album is to highlight songs from RS's "earlier" (i.e. pre-ownership of his masters) catalog -- that would mean the first three albums. >> You Again.....Nora......By Now.....I Saw My Youth Today enjoy the weekend! Pat ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Jan 2001 14:15:29 EST From: Rongrittz@aol.com Subject: [RS] Live Album Well, what I'd LIKE to hear (purely personally) and what SHOULD appear (from a Good Business Sense perspective) are two different things. Obviously, I could die happy if I never heard "Are You Happy Now" again, for example, and I simply don't like some of his other songs, but this CD will obviously have to work harder to an audience bigger and wider than just me. (Heck, just about anyone on the planet is bigger and wider than me.) So, I'm going to break this down into two categories, Essentials and Hopefuls. From _Sparrows Point_, the Essentials are "Are You Happy Now" and "Kenworth." The Hopefuls are "The Courier" and "On a Sea of Fleur-di-Lis." From _Blue Divide_, the Essentials are "Summer Wind/Cotton Dress," "Fishing" and "Mary Magdalene" (so people who became fans through CCC can hear the master do it). The Hopeful is"Blue Divide," although it might also make sense to include "Lazy," if only so Richard can show some sense of humor by including his "You don't find chords like this in no song about no mining disaster" intro. From _Reunion Hill_, the Essentials are "The Next Best Western" and the title track, and the Hopefuls are "May" and "I Saw My Youth Today." If he includes a non-released cover or two, I'd love to hear "Once in a Very Blue Moon," "Sonora's Death Row" or "Making Plans." It would also be great if the CD were to include at least one song we've never heard before. And finally, I'd hope that it would feature a mix of band and solo performances. I have mixed feelings about whether I'd like Lucy and/or Dar to make an appearance, but I'm guessing that's a political hot-potato that I don't wanna touch. RG ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Jan 2001 14:29:10 -0500 From: "vududoll" Subject: [RS] Ticket prices and live album Hello there, I'm new to this list and new to Richard Shindell, having "accidentally" discovered Somewhere Near Paterson (it's a long story) only a few months ago and now I'm completely captivated by this man's music. I checked out the web site and imagine my astonishment and delight when I saw that the first stop listed on the tour is my all-time favorite venue, the wonderfully intimate Rosebud Cafe in Pittsburgh! What luck! Which brings me to a comment about the ticket prices. When I saw that tickets were only $10.00, I have to say that I was surprised that Rosebud was charging so little for the show. Personally, I would have been happy to pay at least twice that much, but then I only go to shows to see my favorite performers, and rarely go to more than 8-10 shows a year. The fact that the show will be on a Thursday evening in Pittsburgh may be a contributing factor -- historically, not a big 'going out on the town' night around here; Jill Sobule and Stan Ridgway each played here on Thursday evenings (no, not the same show!) and their tickets were in the same range. Hopefully, the low ticket cost will entice more people to drop by and we'll fill the place. (BTW, I printed out the handbill from the website, posted some on bulletin boards, left some at a couple of businesses at U of Pgh, etc. and around my office to help spread the word. Hope it helps!) As for a live performance album (if, as a newcomer, I may be so bold) I'd suggest "The Next Best Western" and "The Things That I Have Seen," two of my non-SNP favorites. Best to all...
