This settles it - if Young/Hunter represents them I am there! If you like the blues and you get the chance to see Chris don't miss it. Not only does he write and play great songs, but he is a crack up. Chris opened for LA favorite Dave Alvin. Dave said Chris was one of his influences and heroes. Dave played some of the songs from his grammy nominated "Public Domain." The album is classic folk songs in the public domain. He says he wanted to do the album because he felt some of the classics had had the life sucked out of them by captivity (and covers by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir)and he wanted to set them free! There were so many guitars on stage with him and his band I wished Clary or Greitzer had been there as guides! Anyways it was a great night. I had to laugh when I got this months Wired magazine. The big bold headline is "YOU AGAIN." The article is about cloning, but hey maybe someone at wired likes Richard. Lastly, in a non-timely question I was thinking about when I saw Dar, and Richard was playing with her, in LA several years ago. She was talking about how she was losing Richard cause he was going to tour with Joan. So here's my question: Did he open for, play in her band, sing with her or what? Any old timers got the answer? First time, I saw Dar (though I had been obsessing over MORTAL CITY & THE HONESTY ROOM for a year by then) and Richard. Dar also mentioned that Joan had three of Richard's and only two of her (Dar's) songs on GFD. The highlight of that show, for me anyway, was Dar's singing "Mary Magdalen". The next time I saw Richard was in October '98 (at the Iron Horse) when Dar made a special guest appearance singing lead on Mary M. (they got their verse order screwed up) and backup on "Cold Missouri Waters". She also joined in Richard's final encore, "Nora". At that time, Richard had been off Joan's tour for a few months. So, I guess he toured with Joan for about nine months. Norman ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V3 #12 **********************************
