It's SOLD OUT! So I can't go (but i hear it's a crowded crowded place, not anything like my friends who do house concerts). OH! Maybe Dave&Tracy will be on the radio that day since it's a Saturday! Sometimes they do that << Well Ron, I guess it's a good thing we opted for the Espresso Garden Cafe in San Jose then, huh? Sorry Katie about the house concert sell-out, but you could meet us the night before for the "public" show. Aren't you dyin to see what Ron looks like? All I've seen is his CD cover. Boy, howdy, he was a cute kid. j a c do you know the way to san jose? duh duh DUH duh duh duh ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Dec 2000 13:21:35 EST From: RockinRonD@aol.com Subject: [RS] Beat It! Opened my mail this morning and learned that Richard will be appearing at the IMAC in Huntington, Long Island on May 4th at 9PM. This means that for the THIRD time, I will have driven less than 20 miles to see him, not counting Cry Cry Cry shows. Maybe I should just try and book him for one of my Red Cedar Soundstage House Concerts this summer--then I would even have Vanessa's five minute walk beat. I would just have to step out the doors of either my dining room or family room and onto my deck to see RS. I dare ANYONE to top that, if I pull it off. Hmmm, let's see, May 4th is a Friday--I wonder if he's busy the next night, May 5th, which is a Saturday--might just be warm enough to stage a show out on the deck. Of course, I'd have to tell Cliff Eberhardt that he was no longer kicking off the Red Cedar season when he plays here the second Saturday in June. ;-Q I'll shut up now. Try seeing Richard 37 times. Oops, I forgot . . . "Somewhere Near Paterson" didn't even > make your Y2K Top Ten. ;-) It did mine ... This is bizarre. This year was the first in a decade when I acquired more than 60 CDs during the twelve month, but I find myself struggling to put together a definitive top 10. So many of them I've listened to so little. 1 Peter Mulvey - Trouble With Poets 2 Richard Shindell - Somewhere Near Paterson 3 Jennifer Kimball - Veering From The Wave 4 Patty Griffin - Flaming Red 5 Dar Williams - The Green World 6 Janis Ian - God & The FBI 7 Jonatha Brooke - Plumb 8 Catie Curtis - Catie Curtis The last two are probably going to come from the following bunch: Erin McKeown - Distillation, several Ellis Pauls, Patty Griffin - Living With Ghosts, Suz Bogguss/Chet Atkins - Sympatico, Deirdre Flint - The Shuffleboard Queens, Stacey Earle - Dancin' ... I can predict with some certainty that my 2001 list will feature Lori McKenna, Kris Delmhorst and Lucy Kaplansky! :-) Dave. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Dec 2000 19:00:52 EST From: Pfleary@aol.com Subject: [RS] how far would you go? how close has he come? Yahoo maps tells me it is 2.3 miles from my house to the church where I saw Richard here in Sebastopol this summer and estimates a five minute driving time. I of course took a slightly different route on side streets, reducing my drive by to 1.9 miles and my travel time to 3 minutes and 42 seconds. This distance beats Katie's, but doesn't even come close to Rebecca's short walk. The furthest I've ever traveled to see Richard is about 92 miles, when I went to see him play for free in a neighborhood park in Palo Alto this summer. The Sebastopol show was a million times better, because the free concert in the park was part of a summertime series where people bring a picnic, socialize with friends and neighbors and essentially ignore the musician. Trying to listen to Richard over the din of conversations about high mortgages, high paying jobs and expensive private schools for all the little Ahslies and Tylers was a little more than I could handle-YUK! Part of the joy of liking singer-songwriters like Richard, Lucy and yes, even miss thing herself, Dar, is that they play in my local area. Nothing like an evening out and home in bed before midnight to make this 36 year old entertained and well rested! I wish you had come over to where Laurel and I were, in the front "row." It was better to have our backs to the din. j a c ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V2 #382 ***********************************
