Johnson" Subject: [RS] singer-songwriters and McPaper I was a bit disappointed with the USA Today article (that's what I get for reading McPaper, I guess). It's not so much that the singer-songwriter has disappeared but that the mainstream media (as relected by MCPaper) has lost sight of the singer-songwriter. No mention of Richard, Dar, Ellis Paul, John Gorka or for that matter the singer-songwriters that appeared on the scene in the mid/late 80s--Tracy Chapman, Suzanne Vega, MCC, etc. OK, they have the obligatory mention of Jewel and Sarah McLachlan. Again, it's Mcpaper's view of the world. There have been several recent stories on singer-songwriters that mention Dar, Richard, etc. in the likes of the NY Times and the Boston Globe, among others. Real papers, not McPaper. As Dar wrote: "And what's the future Who will chose it Politics of love and music Underdogs who turn the table Indies versus major labels" I'm tempted to send a copy of Cry3 to the author. Anyone else with me? Speaking of Ellis Paul (Mahoney?)-- I just saw him at the Iron Horse. Great show! At one point, he broke a string and while fixing the string, recited his new poem about the "20th century".
