He simply observes, absorbs and filters his reactions through the prism of his intellect and his heart. I agree with everyone else who suggested further listenings to this great song. In fact, I think TFN is perhaps his most emotive and urgent vocal performance, right up there with Wisteria. And if you don't think so, try singing it the way he does...virtually impossible, at least for me. I've noticed that when I play it for friends who have yet to let the joy of Richard into their lives, that they sit up and take notice right away. "Who is this?" "This is nice," " I like this a lot," are among the comments I have received after managing to slip it in between some REM and whoever the hot new artist getting a lot of play on San Francisco's KFOG may be. If you want to capture the uninitiated go with Reunion Hill. A few weeks after my success with RH I tried SNP on the same crowd and got "He sounds just like Richard Thompson." Oh well. I also am numbered among those who like Tune For Nowhere. I love the three song sweep of A Tune For Nowhere, Arrowhead and Ascent and like to listen to that when I have a hankering for a small but concentrated dose of Richard. It's not an album where I absolutely love every song, but it's still the winner, closely followed by SNP. However, it's not really among my default albums, I have to be in the mood for it, SNP is among the default ones though, along with anything by Peter Mulvey, Ellis' Carnival of Voices, the Indigo Girls' 1200 curfews, Santana's Supernatural, and Mark Erelli's self-titled first release. Ohh... Richard is playing my favorite city ever tomorrow, if I'm correct. Anybody going to see Richard play at the Tractor in Seattle Sunday night? Reports, please! :) Katrin - -------------------------------------------------------- - If I didn't dream I'd be dead - Peter Mulvey (all in good fun) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Nov 2000 21:10:22 -0500 From: Michael Devlin Subject: [RS] My vote... Sparrows Point followed by Reunion Hill...well actually followed by Cry Cry Cry. Most "Richard Shindell" song..."Cold Missouri Waters."
