I will be checking voice and e-mail, but if you should need to reach me immediately, please feel free to call me at 818-772-2108. Thanks! Yes Ron, re: Kathryn Williams. I am a gay man and I have had to spend my whole life listening to straight boys and gals singing to each other. And you know what? If I only spent my life listening to gay men sing I would have missed out on alot of wonderful music...including RS. In fact, when my boyfriend and I broke up very badly recently, I kept humming "Are You Happy Now?" when his name would come up in conversation. Didn't fix the relationship but it made me feel a whole helluva lot better to think about smashing HIS Halloween pumpkin. Human emotion is just human emotion. It doesn't have a sexual orientation. And isn't that a good thing? Uhm...anyone need this soapbox now? LOL. People, if you're going to be away, please put your list memberships on hold rather than slathering them with autoreplies. (Especially if you're still checking email! What's the point then??) Anybody? I don't know if she is a lesbian. As for whether that affects your listening pleasure, we've "adjusted" for years, changing the songs' pronouns, leaving them as they are for the really great ones, but knowing that was all that was there for us, lacking as it was. This is not meant as a smart-alecky comment, but, seriously, this is a (very tiny) bit of what it is like to be gay in a straight environment. But I still feel the joy when, say, Lucy and Ricky have a baby, or Ali MacGraw dies at the end of the movie. And still can understand what the guy is going through about that woman in "A Summer Wind, A Cotton Dress." The connection in all of this is a human one, regardless of sexual orientation. And not to get all "political" or anything, but that's why we love it when someone makes it big, like Melissa Etheridge, or Indigo Girls, or Ellen, or Martina, or whoever. And that's why it's worth making a big deal out of it when they do make it big. Deb __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! We got her CD at the radio station, and an independent record promoter whom I really like called and asked me to listen to it, so I did, and... her voice drives me *nuts*. I didn't hear any Gillian Welch in it at all... just poppy whining. No offense, of course, to those who do like her. Just thought I should throw my opinion out there before everyone runs out and buys her CD sound-unheard. Just in the wildest possible chance any of you should happen to come to my house in the very near future, we got that brand new toaster in our kitchen by redeeming a bunch of American Express Rewards points. I swear, that's the truth. And to the latent heterosexual Howie who chimed in: >>Don't worry, Ron. There's nothing inherently wrong with being a hetero guy.<< Whew! I was worried there for a minute. Thanks for reaffirming my faith. (Apologies to RonG in advance for this brief moment of inane silliness. I know it makes you cranky. I'll shut up now). How come this has never been reported on the lists? OK, so are there other kids that we don't know about? Does Richard have more than three? Does Dar have kids? Maybe they'll turn up as the Florida ballots are being counted. I'm in 100% agreement - after all that scrambling around to find Kathryn's CD, it hasn't done much for me. Pleasant enough, definitely interesting, but doesn't really push my buttons. However, I, too, bought her first CD, "Dog Leap Stairs" but I've heard that her second CD, "Little Black Numbers" is better so who knows? Ms. Harmer, on the other hand, continues to blow me away. She's just incredible. For anyone who has already bought "You Were Here" and has loved it (which, of course, you did), backtrack and get your hands on some Weeping Tile CDs (Sarah's band). If you like edgier, punchier music, it's GREAT stuff. And, to (belatedly) toss in my "me too" - I'm going to see Kate Rusby next Sunday, too, I'm going to see Kate Rusby next week, too! Absolutely can't wait.... Possibly the only non-Dave & Tracy fanatic on this list (gasp!), Kerry ;) ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V2 #327 ***********************************
