Johnson" Subject: [RS] If it can wait another day.... Listers: I have a confession to make.....I post from work (shhhh!) and I am not yet hooked up to the Internest at home. I have always felt one (or more) steps behind and never at-ease with "the technology" ever since I first started programming as a lad way back in 1972. Long ago, I made the analogy of the personal computer revolution being like an overcrowded bus with running boards on its sides being chased by a mob of crazed people afraid of being left behind. As each one caught up to it, they'd jump on the running boards and climb aboard--effectively tranferring their momentum of running to the forward motion of the bus. None of them realized that the bus actually has no motor of its own...it's only the momentum of the people chasing it jumping aboard that keeps it rolling onward. If they would only stop chasing it, it would surely slow down...and maybe even come to a stop. So why should I chase it? So I saw Richard's tour-opening show last Friday night. It was indeed a great show and surpassed my expectations. And I dutifully wrote down all the songs that he and Radoslav Lorkovich did that night as well as the Nields' "sister act", which opened. The Nields got a standing ovation and fully deserved it. Richard's guitar was lost by the airline earlier in the day coming up from Argentina so he played Nerissa's. Rad found a grand piano waiting for him in the wings and went to town, playing it the whole evening. They played "Just An Old Hobo" which held special significance for each of them and they all came out afterward and schmoozed. Now, the rub. I couldn't post the set-list after the show because I wasn't at my work computer--the one registered to the list. And today rushing out the door I forgot the paper I wrote it the songs down on. So do y'all still want to see it? It's Monday and I see no-one else has chimed-in. I'll bring the paper with the scribbles in to work tomorrow morning and see if anyone else has posted yet from any of the early venues. Etimothy asked: >>So do y'all still want to see it?<< Yes please. I'm seeing him Friday and maybe Saturday and would like to compare. I guess I'll bring along a guitar just in case they lose it again on the trip to the west coast. Wouldn't that just be the coolest thing? He's played RonG's guitars for gigs before, why not mine? =) j a c ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 06 Nov 2000 10:19:56 -0800 From: "Brandy Schaffels" Subject: [RS] is somebody going to post a review of last nite's show that I was unable to attend, and will regret mising for the rest of my life? I swear by the gardening guy in the Phila. Daily News, who also has a show on public radio here and also is a big mahoff for Organic Gardening, and he says don't plant till after Halloween in our area. So I took him at his word. Don't forget to vote tomorrow! Deb __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Thousands of Stores. Millions of Products. Don't give me a heart attack. And by the way you would be most welcome at my perfectly center table. I have two seats left. I can even pick you up. So calm yourself! But if you want to sit with us let me know fast. Otherwise I will need to fill those seats. And since someone mentioned Al Stewart, the very night that I will be seeing Richard, people in Florida will be seeing Al Stewart AND Joan Osborne (and Roger McGuinn I think) on the same bill. Richard will be my consolation, but Al has been my hero since 1977 or so. And I love Joan. If anyone on the list goes to that show, please give me the skinny on it. And Brandy, let me know. Johnson" Subject: [RS] Another mystery untangled Awhile I recounted my experience with "Tanglewood Tree" deja vu. I had had the impression that I had heard the song before. I think the mystery is solved. I was talking with RonG last week at the David Wilcox show (Bottom Line, Thurs night) and we were on the subject of Dave and Tracy. Ron mentioned that he had heard TT on the Signature Sounds compilation CD. Then I realized what must have happened. I, too, have that Signature Sounds CD but haven't played it much. I must have played it and heard TT. Then when I listened to Dave and Tracy's CD, I was primed. So, I think that explains it. RE: AYHN. I love the line "we played roles/rolls in black and white". Not only for the homoymnic juxtaposition of rolls and roles but also for the "black and white" phrase. It means both *literally* the film being B&W and also is figurative for the roles that have lived. The couple had taken their roles arguing in black and white terms-- not in, dare I say it, "shades of grey". It's still going strong, although it is more like a kind of violent political free-for-all these days. I put the messages (hundreds of them) in a separate folder and I think may delete them all. There is an al-stewart.com or something like that if you are intrested. he justdid a new CD that I don't have yet. I have compared this list favorably to that one in telling them just how agonizing it is to be on that list. Especially if you are, as I am, a liberal from birth and there are a couple of very vocal and extreme right-wingers on that list most of the time. Ouch!
