I agree with the aforementioned posters who think this list should encompass not only Richard homages du jour but also kudos to similar muscians/singers/artists/moms we also like (and kudos to my mom who loves RS). With that last one in mind, I was thrilled to see Dar using the incomparable cello talents of Jane Scarpantoni, who played with a group I love: Tiny Lights. Hard to describe their sound: chamber funkfolk might come close. See if you can find their absolutely vunderfilling first album called "Songs for the Halcyon Fear." It is an 80s album but was rereleased on cd by Absolute A Go Go in 1990 I believe. Isn't that a cool name for a record label? Almost as good as Kill All Rock Stars. Jane also plays on another ecstasyinducing cd by Richard Barone called 'cool blue halo' which I think is out of print. Get it if you can. I am a big believer in the 'recommended if you like..." school of reviews. MUCH more accurate, I think, than some arbitrary star system. I got turned on to Richard when he opened for Dar a few years back (I think it was the Beacon or it might have been Town Hall in NYC). This was right after RH was released, and I was hooked after the first chorus of "The Next Best Western." Oh, one last thing: RG, I finally ordered a copy of SP to replace the double copy of BD I accidentally bought. Well, BD will be a present for SOMEONE--probably my mom. I can be a good boy sometimes. Does this mean I get to keep my secret decoder ring after all? Hi all, Suzanne here...the Young/Hunter Storekeeper and Richard's tour coordinator. >Rachel wrote: >I have a favor to ask. Could someone who's going to see Richard soon pick up a copy of SNP for me? I haven't had the money to get it till now when I saw him at FRFF, and I couldn't make it to the Bottom Line the other night because I had to rehearse for a play I'm directing, and I want to buy it from him and not elsewhere so he'll get the bigger cut. So I'm willing to pay postage above the cost, in order to do that. If someone could do that for me, please let me know. I'm in NYC. I was going to reply privately to Rachel, but I might as well take the opportunity to tell/remind any other listers, both new and regular, that you can buy all the Shindell CDs (along with t-shirts, posters & buttons) at the Young/Hunter web store. When you buy stuff through us, our artists (Richard, Peter Mulvey, Chris Smither, Cry Cry Cry) indeed get that "bigger cut" that Rachel mentioned. You can find us by going to: www.younghunter.com then clicking on "Merchandise." Once you get into the store, your options are to: 1. pay at the site with a credit card 2. print the order form, fill it out with your info & credit card # and fax it to us 3. print the order form and send it to us with a check You will usually receive your items in a week or less (we're super-efficient here at Y/H). End of advertisement...back to order-filling now. Cheers, Suzanne P.S. Kerry and I (and some friends) saw RS in Lexington, MA this weekend. The show was SOLD OUT and was filled to the rafters with Shindell devotees. I think if he had given them permission, they all would/could have sung every single word to every song. Rad played with him and the angelic-voiced Beth Amsel opened. See her live if you get the chance! _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. He might be counting Calling the Moon as a non-new song, since it was on Richard Shindell's latest CD. Which doesn't make a lot of sense... Shindell's version may have been first but it was definitely a cover. A cover means the song was written by someone else. In fact many of the songs had been performed over the years. The first time I heard Spring Street was on the August 97 Vin Scelsa show. But that is just Dar's way. Her songs take a long time to filter out. john alvord ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Sep 2000 14:28:38 -0400 From: "Norman A.
