Charlie has told me that for tonight's show at the Bottom Line, Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer are going on FIRST, and they're going on at EXACTLY 7:30. They'll play for 30 minutes, Jess Klein will follow immediately for another 30 minutes, and Richard will have a full 70 minute set. So what I'm saying is: don't be late. Subject: RE: [RS] Richard Shindell at Harris Creek Acoustic in Hampton, VA <> I remember walking down the street with some friends of mine 45 minutes after a Cry^3 show and passing Richard as he was banging on the door of the venue trying to gain entry. He was in a t-shirt and it was freezing out - dead of winter. Surprisingly it was the nicest he has ever been when I've said hi to him. He was all smiles and giddiness. Perhaps his brain was beginning to freeze. In retrospect I should have offered him a "thaw-out smoke." ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Sep 2000 19:17:14 -0400 From: traylor@juno.com Subject: [RS] Soy Bomb/You Stay Here Norman posted: "When I first heard this song on the "Soy Bomb" concert recording, while..." I've been on the Richard list, the Lucy list and the dar list for years and I've never heard an explanation of this. Why is it the "Soy Bomb" concert? "I had a similar take on this. I found it rather interesting that he went from things that were absolute for survival (heat, food) to things *less* necessary for survival (clothing, weapons and God -- and a none-too-responsive one at that!)." I disagree. I think in the cold and snow of Bosnia, a coat is pretty darn necessary for survival. Kids especially would die of hypothermia pretty quickly but could last without food a little longer. Weapons might also be a life-or-death need there. Whether or not God is more or less necessary for survival could start a long theological discussion. If you think of it, food and wood are ongoing needs. Coats and weapons and God you should only have to fetch once, if you can find them. Interesting...but I'm not sure what to make of it. I think Michelle Cashman coined the phrase "soy bomb" to refer to this incident.
