Someone created it on August 20th. If you're interested, take a look: http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/shindellrichard There's a place for chat, pictures, etc. Joy ***************************** Joy Munsey jmunsey4@home.com Webpage for Larry Campbell at: http://www.members.home.net/larrycampbell2000/index.htm ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Aug 2000 08:15:16 EDT From: RockinRonD@aol.com Subject: [RS] Houses in the Fields In a message dated 8/30/2000 3:57:36 PM Eastern Daylight Time, Dave McKay writes: << Before I left (Scotland), a major housing development had begun, and some of the area around where I used to live had been transformed with new roads and a significant number of new houses. >> Dave, you simply MUST hear John Gorka's "Houses in the Fields" if you haven't already. It will bring tears to your eyes for sure. It's on his "Jack's Crows" CD--a truly great album. Anyone who has ever seen a few Dar shows knows that she could easily have a second career as a stand-up comedian. I swear, there are professional comics who I don't think are as funny as Dar. And the most amazing thing, her comic side is all real, and often improvised, self effacing though it often is. Richard has come a long way in being more conversational and, yes, funny, on stage. He's not afraid to tell a joke or use a gaff or mistake on stage as a way of laughing at himself or at life. I'm convinced he learned this from Dar, although no one will ever be in the same league as our Ms. Williams as far as hysterical on stage asides are concerned. Even Lucika Plansky has gotten funnier in the last year or two. Dar is in the details there too I believe. Taggert be doing in Bosnia?" ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Aug 2000 09:12:20 -0400 From: "Dupas, Edward (E.M.)" I really noticed this at the recent Iron Horse performance where he worked in the story about his "plane flight from hell," between songs. Especially the ones where he screwed up the lyrics. His timing was perfect and it's one of the first times that he came across to me as being really funny. The crowd seemed to agree too. I have always enjoyed his little tongue in cheek remarks but this time he just came across as incredibly charming. Maybe it was the exhaustion that made him more relaxed but it made for a fun night. Whether he has been influenced by Dar in this is anyone's guess but I suspect there may be some connection. I just keep liking this guy more and more all the time. Not only does his music keep getting better and better but he seems to be a very genuine person. My {Cool as I am}14 year old daughter ran into him at FRFF and had a chance to chat with him and take some pictures. She returned to camp telling us that he was really, really, nice and that he didn't treat her like some dumb kid and how good she felt about that. She was with us at the ironhorse recently and had a blast. Well, I didn't mean this to be a Richard is God rant but well, he is, sort of. This is a show that NO ONE should miss (I'm coming home from college just to see it, for heaven's sake). It's everything Jim said it was, plus the acoustics are unbelievable (I've never heard any folkies there, but my choral group performed there the year before last, and it was unreal - the sound was so alive it was almost scary). There is no, I repeat, NO good reason why any of you should miss this show. If you think you have a good reason, then you can email me and tell me, and I'll gently and patiently explain why your reason is not so good. You've got two weeks to buy plane tickets, bus tickets, and train tickets; two weeks to rent a car and drive to Whately; two weeks to cancel any dull plans you might have already made, and come see the show that will be one of the highlights of your year - forget your year; one of the highlights of your LIFE. Okay, that's all I have to say about that. And yes, I chose a nondescriptive subject line so that none of you would be warned of my non-Richard content and scroll past my message. Ha. Ciao!
