As a late 40's male I can understand that you might not relate to the songs on TGW as well as some of Dar's earlier material, and I can understand that you might relate to many of Richard's songs better. But since when is relating to the lyrics an important element in appreciating and enjoying music? Think of the other music/bands/songwriters you enjoy. Do you need to relate to their lyrics to really enjoy them? Is a desire to learn to play and sing a song any measure of its quality or of your appreciation and enjoyment of it? Is it possible that we are holding Dar and Richard to different/higher standards for some reason? Just askin'... One: my partner of 16 years has never been welcome in my parents' home, so I have chosen not to go there, so I wonder what the place is like, not having seen it for so long. Two: I take great pride in the home we have created, but I wonder, after we're gone, what people will do to it? Deb __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Thanks, Charlie. Pat Powers, maybe, has a decent one from his online Falcon Ridge album he might sell them. I could tell it was the CFox, but the headstock is partially blocked by a tent pole or mic stand or something =) Certainly better imho than the posed shot of Dave and Tracy though. j a c > -----Original Message----- > > So, will CFox run an ad in Acoustic Guitar with Richard's photo someday, > > like they did with Dave and Tracy? Part of what makes this show special is the venue, the beautiful 108 year old West Whately Chapel, right down the street from Signature Sounds World Headquarters. This lovely little chapel (maybe 90 seats) is set on right on a resevoir, in a gorgeous part of Western Mass. There is no electricity, except for the extension cord we run from the neighbors house. This should be a perfect place to see Dave & Tracy work their magic. There is no opener and 2 long sets. There will be a pot-lcuk desert picnic at 7pm, showtime is 7:30. Tickets are $8 at the door. For reservations and directions call Signature at 800 694 5354. This show is a benefit for the Watermelon Wednesdays concert series. Even though James Keelagan wrote it, it is Richard's song. And yes, in Richard's hands, "The Wreck" would be from somebody's point of view. Probably the captain's but maybe the cook's ("fellas, it's too rough to feed ya"). I can only hear a song like The Babysitter's Here or The Kenworth of my Dreams so many times. It doesn't continue to reveal more to me on repeated listenings. But a song like "The Ocean" or Richard's "Fleur de Lys" will never completely reveal themselves. I am just the opposite of people who "don't want to work to hard to understand a song." I want to have to live with it, to digest it and still not know everything. Then I know I have found a work of art. It is clear to me that TGW is just such a museum piece. In addition, it is clearly a gift of love from Dar to all of us and a work of great honesty and light. She has worked very hard to grow as a person and has reached a place where she can share some of that journey. I don't know how to say this without sounding either insulting or arrogant, but I can see where some of this music would not have meaning to people who have not been working hard on the process of self-actualization. It is a scary and difficult journey with rewards that can't be imagined until you push through it. Songs like Playing to the Firmament and many others on the album are about living your life to the fullest, for your spirit and with wonder and acknowledgement of the precious gift of your life and the multitude of wonders around you. I applaud her unwillingness to "play down" to the masses either intellectually or spiritually. No great artist ever does. Richard certainly doesn't either. In general I wish more "artists" in our culture would take this stand. Perhaps it would raise the bar for all of us. I think this is exactly why she wrote about Yoko. Yoko was interested in John's soul and his spirit and couldn't give a rat's ass about fame or fortune. If you don't know about Yoko I suggest you learn about her childhood before accepting the common attitude towards her. She is a phenomenal women and survivor of the first order. She was abandonded during a war as a teen and had to beg to get food for her siblings. She fought and built her own successful life long before she met John. And as a survivor of the horrors of war, her deep desire for peace was not an affectation. Go Yoko, Go Dar!!! Wisteria: In a strange turn of events my friend and her fiance are buying my parents house. And while I didn't want their house, it will certainly be strange to not only have it sold, but have to see everything they do to change it. My version of Wisteria: my father's blackberry vines. We have had fresh berries, jam and syrup all year round from those bushes. My friend does not intend to pull them out, but she also doesn't have a green thumb. And she mentioned....gulp.....WALLPAPER! Yikes. Richard hit it on the nose for sure. ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number - Free Free voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V2 #221 ***********************************
