Entrance: my dad. "did you put that on?" "Yes.." (expecting a "turn down the volume" to follow). "You put on Leonard Cohen? How nice!" Puzzled look on my face... "dad, that's Richard" ... "oh that guy". ... so here's my question: Does Richard sound like Leonard Cohen?????? dazed and confused, Katrin ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 02 Aug 2000 11:22:45 EDT From: Gf212121@aol.com Subject: [RS] 1st word...sounds like... Hey you guys, Katrin wrote: << so here's my question: Does Richard sound like Leonard Cohen?????? >> Six question marks, the true sign of puzzlement. First, congratulations on having a father who knows who Leonard Cohen is. My father thinks REM is a word, not an acronym. That being said, I don't think Richard sounds like Leonard, to us. They are, I would think, close enough within their related genre (serious male folksinger, more or less) to confuse the casual observer. Look at it from the other side - if you didn't know which boy band was singing a particular song, could you tell for sure? The 'that guy' reference, however, is somewhat disheartening. For those about to un-holster their flamethrowers, please do NOT assume any implication of comparison between Richard and, say, Lance from NSync. Lance is a MUCH better dancer. (I have a 14 year old daughter, so I'm permitted to know who Lance is.) Gene F. PS - Fruhead alert - CBS Sunday Morning is allegedly featuring a piece on Moxy Fruvous this Sunday, August 6. If it's anything like the 'house concert' piece, it will probably air sometime in November. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 02 Aug 2000 21:29:11 -0400 From: "Norman A. Johnson" Subject: [RS] Richard the fisherman OK, I now know who would be perfect for the INS agent in "Fishing". Richard from "Survivor". This is the show where the contestants are on an isolated island and they have to survive with not much much more than their wits. Every three days, they vote someone off. There's also contests where one can win immunity from a given vote. Richard's the cocky, arrogant, schemer and head of the so-called "evil alliance". He's also a fisherman and he's brings in alot of fish to these semi starving people. On tonight's show, he was shown catching fish and he was talking about the parallels between fishing and leading the alliance ("picking the contestants off one by one..." is what he said).
