Dodge in Waterworld? Bull Dodge? Hey you guys, Norman said: << OK, second guessing Sherman Alexie, who would you have to play Dodge? I see Kevin Costner as a possibility but I'm not sure about that. >> Well, if Alexie wants to make 'Young Men in Fire' a four-hour $300 million flop, Costner's his man. Otherwise, how about Dennis Quaid (young Dodge) and Richard Farnsworth (old Dodge)? If anyone saw Dan Bern at the Turning Point last Sunday, please send me a note off-line. I was at the 5:00, and I was wondering if he survived to do the 8:00. Thanks. Which means we have a spare signed poster for SNP in the office, and it makes sense to offer it to you guys.... If you want to win the poster, just complete the form at http://www.fishrecords.co.uk/shindellcomp.html this link is not available from the main site, so any entries over the next few days can only be through the RSlist - we'll draw the winner Tuesday morning. The current comp is to win signed copies of the (very excellent) new Deb Pasternak disc - entry form at http://www.fishrecords.co.uk thanks and best wishes Neil - ---------------------------------------- neil@fishrecords.co.uk www.fishrecords.co.uk Suppliers of singer/songwriter, contemporary folk and acoustic music. Just my two cents. The last couple of records were less impressive to me. - -lee ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jun 2000 19:29:10 EDT From: SMOKEY596@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] John Gorka recommendation Oh gosh...here we go again. :-) I could recommend them ALL, but I'd have to agree that (unfortunately) the last couple haven't gotten much playing time at my house. My favorites are "I Know", "Jack's Crows", and "Temporary Road". Only five years after the events at Mann Gulch, Dodge died of Hodgkins at age 38. Bad news: Pat Power and I were trading e-mail offlist about Sherman Alexie. Pat found out that he's no longer involved in the YM&F project. I think the bold, unfletching statement of "Jesus loved me" is one of the strong points of the song. What do you guys recommend? Absolutely 'Land of the Bottom Line'. Includes one of the most touching break / up-falling out of love songs I've ever heard. John Gorka was one of the first singer songwriters I ever saw and listened to, right after I discovered Dar. I used to be really addicted but somehow others are getting more "airplay" here in my apartment lately. He's still one of my favorites though. Does anybody know when his new album will be released (or was it already released and I missed it?) - Lucy was talking about being over at his place recording backing vocals for that album earlier this year. enjoy the weekend everyone, Katrin PS: Pat wrote: > As the subject of Mary Magdalen(e) came up on the Dylan-List, I posted > the words to "The Ballad of Mary Magdalen(e)," which brought these > responses . . . > > < wrote: > >The Ballad Of Mary Magdalen > > Did not Joanie sing this song? Of course not, but oh, that would be wonderful!!! Yes, I can picture it. Somebody should suggest it to her manager. Joan singing it and Richard doing harmony. It would be hard to top Lucy's version but there's no need to top it, it would be a totally different version anyway. ____________________________________________ "baby lets live in the moment because it feels like life is taking the moment away" Ellis Paul ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Jul 2000 02:54:46 -0700 From: patrick t power Subject: Re: [RS] Re: Mary Magdalene Norman moaned: <> I've always been amused with how "Jesus loved me, this I know" was likely written tongue-in-cheek . . . a reference to the Sunday school recitation.
