Here's a wee question. Supposing Dar's 'Calling the Moon' is autobiographical, is she referring to the goings on with Lawyers and her misfortune that is the subject of 'Pompeii' when she sings about the 'empire falls' falling etc? Just a thought...probably more for the Darlist. Pete > Pete wrote: > >>> .i only got round to ordering 'Blue Divide' yesterday! Having said that, my favorite studio album is "Stories." The others are excellent too. "Live" (double CD) is awesome also, but I always recommend studio albums first, because if you hear a live album first it often is difficult to appreciate the studio versions of songs. [e.g. before they got popular, I bought Vertical Horizon's "Live Stages" and loved it, and then bought their first two studio CDs, "Running on Ice" and something else [can't recall album name], and I had a hard time getting into the studio CDs because I was used to the live versions of the songs] Steve Atlanta ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Jun 2000 07:47:25 -0400 From: mike epstein Subject: Re: [RS] Spring EP The EP is available at www.folkweb.com "David E. There are links for buying both of these CDS (from Signature Sounds and Young/Hunter, respectively) in the "Music" sectionon the Richard website (www.richardshindell.com). Ellis Paul - I'd recommend anything OTHER than Translucent Soul, which I, personally, thought was dreadful and cheesy (don't attack, don't attack!). Still like his earlier albums, though, and haven't heard the live CD. Kerry :) NP: Ben Harper (and the Innocent Criminals): "Burn to Shine" - Picked this up yesterday, based on a friend's recommendation and 2 minutes at a listening station. Say Something was my first Ellis Paul CD, which I bought after he opened for Dar when she came here about three years ago. Got Stories after that, don't have Translucent Soul, but the live CD is really nice. Especially cause I've wanted "Did Galileo Pray" for a while, and now I have it. But "Say Something" is very, very cool indeed. Don't know if you can still get it, at least not through CD Connection...I don't think. I've been wrong before though and I certainly hope you can get it. - -- Buddy Brannan, KB5ELV Email: davros@ycardz.com Voice mail: 877-791-5298 All opinions are all mine! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Jun 2000 10:30:16 -0700 From: Lee Wessman Subject: [RS] 2 questions Well, Mr. Clary and other West Coast list lurkers, it looks as if I'll miss Richard's shows in California the week after next. I know. This is unforgivable. Gotta work too much during the week. I could conceivably make it to Sebatsopol on Friday night, but I'm leaving to Costa Rica the next day. My wife says I'd be insane to try to go all the way down to the show on the night before I start a three-week trip. I am insane, of course, but I'm trying not to be. Question 1: Would someone please remind me how to convert to the digest form of the list while I'm gone so that my mailbox doesn't overflow and clog up the street outside? Question 2: Any Shindellites ever been to Costa Rica? What would you say I must I not miss down there? (And I'll take my answers off the air.) - -lee ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Jun 2000 10:33:19 -0700 From: Lee Wessman Subject: [RS] Another question Has anybody ever been to see Stacey Earle? She's playing in a town near me tomorrow night. Steve Earle's sister. A couple of weeks ago I overheard one of her songs, "Next Door Down," and it was so wonderful I went and bought the album "Simple Gearle." It has some great stuff on it. I'm wondering whether anybody has seen her and if it's worth the effort -- in the educated opinion of a Richard Shindell fan -- to go. - -lee ------------------------------ Date: Thu Jun 29 13:39:07 2000 From: SMOKEY596@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] CDs... You're right, Buddy, "Say Something" is hard to find. You can get it from the website tho, www.ellispaul.com, and plus if you buy it there, Ellis gets more of the money. :-) Now what IS hard to find and out of print are his two first independant releases. I don't even have those. :-( But there is a lot of talk about re-releasing those soon, especially with the success of his tune on the "Me, Myself, & Irene" soundtrack. It's going to be released as a single in a few weeks. USA Today said of the soundtrack, "Among the new songs, the standout is The World Ain't Slowin' Down, a shimmering ballad from New England cult rocker Ellis Paul, a favorite of the movie's directors, brothers Bobby and Peter Farrelly, and a talent to check out." LOL...."cult rocker"...okayyyyy.... She is great live, has a wonderful time, her husband Mark Stuart is a very good guitar player. You won't be disappointed in the least. Lots of energy, humor, great music.
