Correct me if I'm wrong Pat, but I'm sure you had this CD with us. I was really moved by the version, it was truly better than any one I'd heard before or since. I have this feeling that the CD is somehow not available any longer...but then again I used to have this feeling that this city was dying, but it wasn't the city that was dying...it was the people that...oh never mind. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jun 2000 09:32:28 EDT From: RockinRonD@aol.com Subject: [RS] Saint Lucy In a message dated 6/14/2000 12:41:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time, RonG emotes: << Angelic, I tell ya, angelic. It was at that show (SUNY Farmingdale), at that moment, when I realized Lucy Kaplansy's voice was not completely of this world. It also made me realize that she would make a great stage actress in musicals, perhaps even operas. Ron is absolutely correct, she did indeed BECOME Mary Magdalene that evening and I felt the power of that song probably for the first time. Whew! Sadly, there were about 25 people in the entire theater for that co-billed show. He'll e-mail back the first 10 winners with instructions on where to send the cheque (of course, he spelled it "check" but I knew you guys would jump all over me for abandoning my roots if I did that ;). FYI, the sampler also features songs by Erica Wheeler, Kelly Joe Phelps, Salamander Crossing, Chris Smither, Peter Mulvey, Louise Taylor, Deb Pasternak, and Maria Sangiolo. Kerry :) NP: Weeping Tile, "Cold Snap" - Ohmygawd, Sarah Harmer is/was (?) in a band! I just got 3 of their CDs and, since she was both the songwriter and lead vocalist, it's like 3 new Sarah CDs for this little obsessive compulsive. Dar's Mary is wistful and world-weary. It's not preachy. Lucy's Mary is not only seductive but a bit sarcastic (yeah... you're so perfect and all but you walked out on me) and maybe even a little vindictive. The Marconi allusion fits well in that Richard is trying to make a connection to the one across the Blue Divide. We've discussed before how the person across the blue divide is almost certainly his current wife, Lila (the LMC to whom "You again" is dedicated). As for Jaywalking, I think it's one of the funniest parts of the Tonight show but I suspect they edit out intelligent responses. How about James Earl Jones as the retired grocer with idle hands??
