My latest experience was with the song Castaway - what a great number. Does anyone else experience this or is it just me? Would anyone other there have the lyrics/chords to the song. I dont believe it is in the 2 familiar sites we usually refer to. Thanks for any help. Has anybody been there before? It appears from their website to be an outdoor venue with the whole annoying kids and clueless dolts with lawns chairs who talk thru the whole show, but perhaps I'm being overly pesimistic. I'm especially interested in info about how early I would have to get there to get a decent seat, and how the sound was last year. The 6 bucks part sounds pretty good - but how about parking? Also, anyone have any input on how long Cheryl and Richard will probably play. The website is www.umconcerts.org/ . They have directions and stuff on the site and it says that they have a nearby back-up auditorium in the event of rain - which might well be the case this coming Sunday from what I hear. If I lived closer I'd definitely be up for it... but three hours there and especially three hours back is a lot to consider. Thanks in advance for the input. All of a sudden, something will click and I feel like I'm hearing it for the first time. It happened last Friday night when I saw him sing "Transit" live. You're onto something important there, Jeff. One thing that all my favorite music has in common is that it unfolds itself to you over and over. The more you listen the better it gets. The same goes for literature or any other art. I like the stuff that keeps pulling you back. On the flip side, there are some artists whose work seems great the first few times you are exposed, but then grows old because it just doesn't have enough levels of meaning, or it doesn't leave enough to the imagination. An interesting part of Richard's appeal is that we often talk about the characters in his songs as if they are characters in a movie or a book. We wonder what they are going to do next, or why they acted a certain way. I was once in a traveling stage production of "Spoon River Anthology" by Edgar Lee Masters. Anybody familiar with that? We did it about 60 times and I swear, every night I would learn something new about the characters. - -lee ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 May 2000 14:41:21 -0400 (EDT) From: chuckdb@erols.com Subject: Re: [RS] Sun.,May 28th, Concert Under The Stars > > > Hey ho: > > Tigerboy here with a question: I am actually considering making the > drive > from my den here in northern New Jersey all the way out to Upper Merion, > Pennsylvania ( near Philly and Valley Forge) to see Richard this Sunday > night - and Cheryl Wheeler - but I'm looking for input about the quality > of > this venue. Has anybody been there before? I think this is a worthwhile venue to see performers. You will have to put up with some periferal children playing and some talking, but overall it is not too bad. The sound is decent and you should be able to get decent seats even at 6:30. Some people who are just going to see Cheryl Wheeler may show up late and that is annoying. Parking shouldn't be much of a problem. There is a lot at the municipal building (associated with the park) that fills up fairly quickly, but a grassy parking area on Henderson Road across from and down the road a little bit from the park usually has ample spots, especially if you get there early enough. My guess is that Richard will perform for about 45 minutes and then there will be a 15 minute break and Cheryl Wheeler will perform for about an hour. There is usually an ice cream truck in the parking lot for snacks during the show or the break and you will be able to buy CDs, etc. in an area next to the stage (before the show and during intermission). Last year, it rained for the Richard/Lucy show and my wife and I were too late to get into the building. Christine Lavin put on a short show for those of us standing outside and unable to see the show. If it looks like rain, you should probably plan to get there at least a half hour before the show starts. Unfortunately, for me, I won't be able to see Richard at this venue again this year (although I saw him there in 1998 opening for Susan Werner). Don't panic, we were told. I can't remember exactly when, and my other email is gone. On another note, I can't wait to see Richard on Sunday at the King of Prussia show, opening for Cheryl Wheeler. It will be my first time seeing him solo. I saw Cry Cry Cry last summer. Have a great Memorial Day weekend, everyone. Deb __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
