Hordes of little Richard-heads running around in their matching t-shirts? Isn't there an unspoken rule against wearing an artist's shirt to that artist's show? It's just not cool. >> Gotta say I agree with Vanessa. I wouldn't be caught dead wearing a Richard shirt at a Richard show, if for no other reason than I don't do the "gang/cult" thing well. Ya see, my feeling is that if I want someone at a show to know who I am, I usually (through the list) make it known beforehand that I'm the short guy with the Elvis sideburns and the red horn-rimmed glasses. Besides, T-shirts are really only good for the summer months. As for a pin, well, can you imagine a bunch of folks, walking around and squinting at each other's chests to spot a pin? Um, I don't think so. That having been said, I'm simply thinking that the T-shirt is another cool piece of Richard merchandise that might could be made available for everyone (meaning, available on the Richard site) and not just limited to listers, and as such, is still a terrific idea. I've had experience ordering both pins and tshirts, and here's my thoughts: a pin would be great, but you usually have a minium order of 100 or more for those little cloisonne look alike ones. Then they cost $2-5 each, depending on the # of colors used. T shirts or embroidered shirts can be done for any number of people, and as cheaply as 10 or 15 bucks each for a good quality shirt. I'd suggested a chambray shirt with embroidered logo over the pocket for something similar going on with the Ellis Paul Fan-out group, so i'll make the suggestion again here. We do them for one of our publications, and they are nice. Understated, can be dressy or casual, etc. I like the pin thing as far as being less obvious and groupie-like in the case of 12 of us being at a show, but I'm not sure about the logistics. I'll do some checking. Plus, the simple fleur-de-lis or blue pill designs would really translate well into the pin. I just saw in one of my marketing books - custom ordered wash-off tatoos of your logo or slogan. I love both "Shindell's List" and "In DADGAD We Trust" as T-Shirt themes. And while the idea of a Feur-de-Lis pin is also a great one, I would buy a "In DADGAD We Trust" T-shirt in a heart beat. I think we should do all of these ideas and people can take their pick. That way YH can sell more T-Shirts, raise more money for charity and people at Shindell shows don't necessarily have to be wearing the same exact thing, though if they choose to, can don something that will I.D. them as a Lister. I'd probably end up buying all the T-shirts as well as the pin. Provided they come in XXL. So let's do it! Of course Richard would have to get one, too. I wasn't going to get any more tatoos, but I'll make an exception just for the RS-list ;-) Oh , I was going to be so creative and think about t-shirt designs, but all my creativity has gone to other sources. Can I still be part of the club? :-) Katrin ____________________________________________ we come to pass not to stay all that matters anyway is what will follow you Peter Mulvey (all the way home) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 May 2000 10:03:57 -0700 From: Lee Wessman Subject: [RS] t-shirts How about sneakers with fleur-de-lis stamped on the toes? That way we don't have to stare at each other's chests. We can walk about the show with our heads cast down nonconformingly. Nobody will ever know we're groupies. When we see someone else with a fleur-de-lis stamped on their toes, we could nod, wink and give the secret password. This should not be a conflict, unless a lister is caught helping old ladies cross the street. Besides, no one would admit to being a Saints fan. As far as the t-shirt being sort of dorky, wearing it in conjunction with the pinwheel hat would add that debonair, man-(or woman)-about-town David Niven touch of class, n'est-ce pas? In deference to the requests of others, it should, of course, be in basic black (the t-shirt, I mean. The pinwheel hat must, according to the Geneva Convention, be configured of multiple primary colors). I'm liking the pin idea more, as I've considered what many have said here about it. I would be OK with wearing a pin to a concert, but would _not_ wear a T-shirt from the artist to a concert (maybe I'm just too old for that). But a pin would be subtle and a cool way to identify others from the list. 2. Some listers are starting to use the name "Richard-heads" to refer to us. This is growing on me. I remember a while back (probably over a year now) that somebody mentioned this list to Richard and he said something like "...what do you call yourselves 'dick-heads'?". While we don't want to go in that direction, "Richard-heads" puts it on the edge and could be cool. brian. ...heading back to lurkdom now... - ----- Original Message ----- From: Dupas, Edward (E.M.) But I'll be succinct: 1. I agree with Vanessa that a "gang" of folks at a show with identical t-shirts is a little weird (or something like that). Not likely to happen in Houston, but I'm sympathetic to you lucky folks in the NE. Maybe if the t's were in different colors? On the other hand: 2. I've never worn a pin in my life. 3. Richard-heads, Just Touchy as Hell, and In DADGAD We Trust are funny, Shindell's List is also funny, and a wonderful play on words, but I tend to avoid any Nazi themes (I know he was anti-Nazi, but it brings images to mind) in my t-shirts (especially when the guy mentioned on the shirt lives in Argentina). Like most folks though, I would jump at the chance to buy another RS t-shirt.
