My personal preference is 100% cotton, but i know that is not what the maddening crowd goes with... I love the st. agnes choir thing, and While we're at it, it could become the new name of the list. As an example, one of Ellis' lists is Carnival of Voices, taken from an album name and song lyric. shindell-list is fine, but i'm sure with all these creative, witty people, something more original could be dreamt up. I for one will be thinking of some designs (as if that isn't what i do all day anyway...) and submitting them. temporarily de-lurking... jennifer HotBot - Search smarter. http://www.hotbot.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 May 2000 10:41:45 EDT From: SMOKEY596@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] tshirt thoughts The choir idea is cool. Maybe the list of cities toured could be the towns of those on the list? I'm not sure how many of us there are, but that would be kind of neat. I know people who join later wouldn't be on there, but it could be a "this is who was here when the idea came about thing". I also like "Shindell's List" too tho. :-) And, like Ellis Paul's Carnival of Voices list, John Gorka's is the Good Noise list. I think we need a name! Being fairly new here, I wonder if the long-time listers have tried to come up with a name for Richard's fans, like Kiss Army or Deadheads (although Richard Heads is probably not a great idea, nickname-wise.) If this has been done, I think it might lead to an idea for the t-shirt. If not, the St. Agnes' Prison Choir fits into this theme quite well, dont you think? If it's going to be a quote, I still like 'I am wretched, I am tired.' If there's not enough support for the t-shirt, how about a pinwheel hat and secret decoder ring? The hat would be a sure-fire way of identifying listers at concerts, and the ring could be used to help me figure out what the heck 'Fleur-de-Lis' is about. Besides, at the end of each concert, Richard could give the audience a secret message that only listers could decode, just like Little Orphan Annie in 'A Christmas Story.' Or, maybe not. In any case, I really do like the t-shirt idea. Gene F. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 May 2000 16:49:13 EDT From: SMOKEY596@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] T-Shirt Yes! He said I was the only person so far that has asked about tickets for Sebastopol, 7/14. The tickets are being printed as I type and s/b available in the usual local places by Friday. If you want to purchase by credit card and have your tickets waiting for you at the show (or mailed to you) you can call KRCB directly: (707) 585 - 8522 ext. 303. You can order by phone right now. I hope to see some of you there! I'll be the one w/o the pin wheel, decoder ring, lister shirt, etc. Well, maybe the lister shirt... Seeking consensus, - --lee ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 May 2000 23:45:48 -0400 From: Vanessa Wills Subject: Re: [RS] t shirts Well, I've been thinking about this problem for a little while. I am usually not too hard to find at a Richard Shindell show, but not everyone is so easily marked out, as I have learned the hard way, having several times found out after a show that I was sitting two seats away from a lister or nine. Anyway, I think a t-shirt is not the best idea for these reasons: a) they wear out b) they get dingy/ stained/ used to wash your car (I know, the latter would never happen to a *Richard* t-shirt, but still. c) aren't they a little. . . dorky? I mean, can you imagine? Hordes of little Richard-heads running around in their matching t-shirts? Isn't there an unspoken rule against wearing an artist's shirt to that artist's show? It's just not cool. So I was thinking--how about a discreet little pin? a) long-lasting b) cleans with the wipe of a soft, damp cloth c) did I mention it's *discreet*? d) won't have us looking like wayward nine-year-olds on a field trip e) a lot cheaper --what, a buck a piece? maybe two bucks a piece? f) they're just cooler, because they're obligatory. People will ask you, "What's up with that pin?" You will say, "Ah, I have to wear it--I'm looking for this dude I argued about little blue pills with, over e-mail." They will say, "Oh. That's cool." You will have an air of disaffection and utter cool. If you're wearing a t-shirt, and the five people next to you are wearing the same t-shirt, it doesn't matter how cool that shirt is, you're going to look a little silly. You will wear the shirt, and people'll just look at ya funny. g) they can be based in black, with maybe brown or blue tones, so they will go with almost whatever you're wearing h) did I mention that a pin is a little more *discreet*? Now, don't get me wrong. Everyone I know and their kid brothers all know that I love Richard's music, and I am a total fan, and I've got the posters and the postcard-stickers and the autographed pictures and what-not all up on my wall. I'm all about readily visible expressions of fandom--I wear my AYHN t-shirt religiously, since it always gets a "What's that all about?" And then, I get to introduce them to the wonderful world of Richard. I'm all about wearing our love for the music on our sleeves, but um, do we have to do it in packs? Wanna run with the cool kids? C'mon, let's do a nice, *discreet* pin. Or maybe do both, and have an option? I'm going to procrastinate and try to do a design that can double for the pin and the shirt, depending on what the final vote is. You guys all know I'd be the first one to plunk my money down for the shirt, anyway. ;-) Peace, Love, and Mischief, Vanessa, who should be in bed, crying herself to sleep while lamenting tomorrow's schedule. arrrgghh. ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V2 #82 **********************************
