One thing that will definitely come of this (I predict) is a "slew" of new material. An American can't possibly live in South America (and I lived in Peru for 2 years) without being touched and moved by the people they find there (even though Argentina is fairly cosmopolitan). I imagine Richard will craft some beautiful and moving songs from the experience. I can't wait. Hi John: I'm in Berkeley and when he was at the Freight a month or two ago it was sold out, so I wouldn't assume that you will be able to get tix at the door. Keep trying to find out how to get tix in advance. Imagine my surprise! This whole show was done (as is their habit, methinks) without a shred of publicity in any medium at all except their perrenially late cafe newsletter. If one were not a lister, the whole event could completely pass you by... I actually live in the San Fernando Valley where it is 100F today. Crap its only May!!! Help I think I have heatstroke! Welcome and take care. Spends a lot of time in Argentina and his Argentinian friends commented on his emphasis on minor chords in his songs as opposed to their more upbeat stuff. Said they left lots of music around for him so he could get the hint. Ha - the minor chord songwriter. Anyway, Lazy was an attempt to break out of that for his friends. Their act is kind of campy - almost vaudevillian (is that a word?) But I actually found it kind of refreshing for a folk act. I told Pete Kennedy afterwards that his good sense of humor really comes through in his guitar playing and that he should bill himself as the "Chico Marx of the guitar." He laughed... fortunately. As entertaining as they were, I wonder how well they would stand up to repeated viewings. And, from someone who has seen them several times, I think they stand up to repeated viewing just fine. That's why they make chocolate and vanilla, I guess.
