I don't think I've ever heard him perform it. >> It's a song about a bunch of cowboys from a ranch called The Broken O, who ride into a town called Sonora to dance, drink, play cards and raise a little hell at a bar called Amanda's. But, see, Tom Russell (who covered it on his fabulous CD called "Cowboy Real") calls it the "best cowboy twist-of-fate song ever written," so I can't really tell you much more without giving away the VERY surprise ending, although suffice it to say that one of the cowboys will be visiting the gallows soon. No, I was not the distracting woman (I was distracting at the Newport show :-)), but she might be reading the list, mortified and vowing never again to be seen at a show or let herself be known to us. This happened recently on the Gorka list, as some of you might remember...a regular told of taking her friends to the show and being disappointed that they didn't go crazy over him. Several of us chimed in with our thoughts on this, only to find that her friends had joined the list and were not taking too kindly to the comments! Everything eventually calmed down, but it was a little "hot" for awhile. :-) SMOKEY Bless your sweet mistakes, That crumble you down to your knees. However, the circumstances in this case are entirely different as this concerns someone's behaviour at a concert -- which was rude and thoughtless. This subject -- fans dancing while others are trying to watch and listen - -- probably gets beaten to death on these lists, but it seems to me that when you go to a "listening" room, you listen . . . not make a spectacle of yourself. LOL,,,now I'm not going to take my own advice, as those people might be on *this* list too, but that was ridiculous! No one bashed those people...we were simply agreeing and sympathizing with the original poster. It seems like they would have been upset with her for saying it, not with us for agreeing, but que sera sera. >>>I'd agree with that statement usually, but after watching her I have this undeniable hope that things happen just as you say.<<< I understand. :-) You were there, I wasn't. I'll take your word for it. I remember seeing James McMurtry not too long ago, and there was sort of a dance area between the stage and the tables, but no one was dancing. We were all there to listen to the music...except this one drunk. He got right up there, not two feet from JM, and just STARED at him while he played. And then he was dancing around and looking behind him to see if we were all as amused with him as he seemed to be. We were not. However, no one stepped up to get him out of the way. So for over half of the show we had to watch him being an idiot. I'm sure JM didn't like it either, and as moody as he can be, I'm surprised he didn't take care of it himself! I didn't see that post, but it seems reasonable to say you're disappointed when your friends don't share your enthusiasm for one of your favorite performers. I spoke to my Detroit friend today. She was at The Ark last night, and she agreed. Funny thing is, last time she and I went to a concert together, we were on the other side. Bare Naked Ladies at some big arena outside of Detroit. the whole palce was up dancing, but the guy behind us (who was built like a beer barrel) kept screaming that he couldn't see. We did out best to ignore him, and hoped he wasn't about to jump us. He actually left before the first encore, and was _not_ waiting for us in the parking lot. Anyway, to the lady in the fornt row, if you are reading this, it's wonderful to be moved by the music, but pay attention to those around you. If you can't contain yourself, go stand in the back of the hall. > I'll take your word for it. We weren't sure if he as concsious or not. Back on topic, this was my Detroit friend's first Richard show, and she thought he was great. -karl ________________________________________________________________________________ Things to do today: Inhale Exhale ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V2 #72 **********************************
