There is little doubt that Richard was hugely influenced and inspired by this remarkable work, perhaps the most memorable folk record of the modern era. Few people can put little novellas to song the way Dylan has always done, but Richard certainly is one of them and it is part of what makes his music so special. ( Reunion Hill, Sparrow's Point, Transit, Mary Magdalene, Nora, etc., etc.). You know, there are whiming folk singers and there are literate folk singers. Richard belongs to the latter...in the Dylan tradition. Feh. :->>> Sadly, Bonnianne, you're dead on right, which is why I am no longer on that List, though it was the first one I ever joined. And while I still worship at the altar of Dar, I can't even bring myself to lurk on that List any longer. It's as if it has been taken over by interlopers, not unlike how I feel about Dar's new management--talk about a lightening fast disconnect. But you'll love it here, and welcome. We get regular input from Charlie, Kerry, Jim Olsen, Michaela, we focus on the music not our so-called lives and it kind of feels like the Dar List used to feel. Warm and fuzzy. So long as you don't cross RonG or SallyG. No, they're not married. I don't think. ;-) Ron ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Apr 2000 11:57:58 EDT From: HEYJC01@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] ... & musical theory Speaking of playing Richard's songs, Im currently working my way thru Wisteria, which is fairly difficult due to the pull-offs/hammer-ons in open tuning. Not that I cant play it, but more so the unique riffs that Richard interposes in the song that are a challenge. It is a beautiful song that is, at least so far, one of the most challenging songs to date I've tried to learn of Richard's music. Has anyone else on the learned Wisteria? Any comments or suggestions? Jeff ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Apr 2000 12:08:05 -0400 From: "E Dupas" Subject: Re: [RS] ... & musical theory Yeah, I learned it. I put the tablature on my site (http://people.mw.mediaone.net/edupas/home.htm). If you have been trying to learn it by ear you already know it is tricky; that song took me longer than any other to transcribe. Lots of detail and a lot to remember if you want to learn it through as Richard does it. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Apr 2000 12:46:54 -0400 From: Kerry Bernard Subject: [RS] Small correction Actually, as it happens, Richard Shindell will NOT have a band at the 4/30 show in Manchester, CT.
