No, I'm not kidding in the slightest. My husband got me reading this a few months ago, and I flew through them. It's some of the best, most moving writing I've ever read. Just the words "death of Betty," are able to bring tears to my eyes. I sobbed through a lot of the issues and laughed through my tears. If you have any friends who collect comics, find these and read them. It was something like a 10-year run, so they're not hard to come by. I've never been a comic book reader, but Peter David's Hulk opened my eyes. He's incredible. Read them! Read them!!!! (and I didn't even say "or Hulk Smash," becuase Peter's hulk is an intelligent Hulk, even a LOVING Hulk...!!!) Just read them and see what I mean. returning to lurking in shame(?), Rose Angelfire for your free web-based e-mail. http://www.angelfire.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Apr 2000 01:42:06 -0400 From: "L. My only question is . . . what took you so long? >> Awwww...shucks. :-) Ummm, it was a realization that the Dar-list is not at all about Dar, it's about us...And since her management has changed, there is no communication between them and us. Feh. :-> Like I said, I am so glad Richard is doing so well...he played here in Berkeley recently to an SRO house and said that it was so different from the last time he was at the Freight. "Nobody knew me, and nobody showed," he said. When he toured with C3, I remember seeing him up at the reception table and he looked like he was kind of sad, at watching everyone seek Dar's attention and autograph. Indeed, I was one of them, because I wanted her to sign a copy of a compilation CD a bunch of us singer/songwriters on the Dar-list put together. He looked at me with pen in hand, and I said, "I'm waiting for Dar," and he nodded in advance, with a sad smile, as if he was waiting for me to say that. And I wanted to shake him and say, "Do you know what a great writer you are? Do you know how much your songs have affected me??? Do you know that every time I hear A Summer Wind I think of a kiss on the footbridge at Cornell and the way he looked at me that warm August night???!" But I didn't say anything and neither did he. I hope he's getting to know that people out here do love him quite a lot. Besides, he just wouldn't look good in stretch velvet. :-) ~Bonnianne ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V2 #37 **********************************
