Then the US again for most of Sept. Then > again from > late Oct to Mid-Nov. At least that's the plan right now! What can I say, that is perfect timing. Now all I need is a couple of "within reach from New York" gigs in exactly that time frame and I am almost at peace with the fact that I can't make it to FRFF this year. Which brings me to a completely non-Richard related question (and I apologize in advance for those who see it twice, here and on the Lucy-list), hope noone minds me using the list for this: I will be in New York from mid August til late October (for an internship) Right now I am looking for a room for that time, but it's kinda hard to do that from over here so I wanted to give it a shot and ask: Is there by chance anybody here who lives in New York and has an extra room he/she might want to rent out for that time or does know of a room, or knows somebody who knows of a room... ? Any help would really be much appreciated, I'm rather stuck in my room-search right now I have to admit. Thanks! Charlie wrote: > 2. I love this guy! One of those singers I came across simply because the name vaguely rang a bell (I think I remembered it from Charlie saying something about managing him earlier on, is that right Charlie?) when I saw him in the store here. HERE! That is rare, I hardly find singer songwriter albums here in the stores, so I usually can't resist buying an album in that case, even if I'm not really familiar with the artist. Iain Matthews definitely is a bit more countryish than other people I listen to. Beautiful songs! Go check him out! I've been meaning to buy Excerpts from Swine Lake for a long time (I actually only own one of his albums so far), it has a really intriguing cover. Your wish is my command. Appel Farm Arts and Music Festival June 3rd 11:30 'til 7:30 http://www.appelfarm.com/ Grove Stage Vanida Gail 11:30 Asylum Street Spankers 12:10 Willy Porter 1:30 John Gorka 2:15 Break Jonatha Brook 4:00 Richard Thompson 5:30 Feild Stage Ben Arnold 11:30 Lucy Kaplansky 12:10 Greg Brown 1:00 (FYI, He is taking the rest of the summer off) David Gray 2:15 Moxy Fruvous 3:15 Willy Porter 4:45 Martin Sexton 5:20 Mary Chapin Carpenter 6:45 It's up in the air which stage I will be managing this year. Last year my friend and bandmate and Courtney and I managed the Grove stage, while her father and another gentleman managed the field stage. Unfortunately Court's dad has gone thru a string of surgeries and at this time is unable to manage. If he doesn't improve I may be switched to the Feild stage for this years fest. At any rate one of us will be at the Doc's show. And both of us will be at MCC. Again this year the band Something Black will be offering the "Something Black Ironman challenge". In order to qualify you must 1)Attend our show on Friday June 2nd 2)Attend Appel Farm June 3rd 3)Attend our show Saturday June 3rd Grand prize is a concert by the band anywhere you want. We only ask that you "make us a pallet on the floor" if it's long commute, and that it not conflict with music or family matters. So basically, Courtney and I go on stage at 9 PM on June 3rd- plat til 1:30, pack up the gear, get home around 3AM, get up at six, drive a couple hours to Appel Farm, run a concert, hop back in the cars, blow thru home for a shower, out to the venue, set up then play from 11 to 2. We can do it, are you woman or man enough to keep up with a 52 year old music freak, Huh? HUH? ARE YA? I love to see a master axman like Carlos Santana finally get his props at the Grammys (even though the Grammys are b*llsh*t). And he is a master as is Clapton, Dimeola, etc -- BUT that doesn't make their music BETTER than someone elses -- just some of their technique. Music is the full package. Music is a completely subjective experience. If I meet someone who LOVES Marilyn Manson, I'm not going to convince them that Richard is better. And really neither one of us would be right or wrong. Whoever is great to you -- IS great. Why the need for unanimous approval of your choice?? ..Carol ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Apr 2000 09:48:35 EDT From: RockinRonD@aol.com Subject: [RS] But I'll defend to the death... Today's Subjects: ----------------- _SUBJECTS-AUTHORS_ In my opinion we are ALL music snobs on this List. I think it is why we're on it in the first place. But it doesn't make us collectively bad people. Just discerning. And selective. Let us not judge too harshly the views of Mr. Elwestrand. He is only expressing his opinion, to which he is entitled. Besides, it's fun to disagree. Wouldn't you agree? Lively debate is the lifeblood of any discussion group, such as this is. I saw him open for David Wilcox a couple of months ago and was really blown away by his music. His CD "One Single Thread" has great folk songs and a really fantastic guitar instrumental (I remember great guitar playing as a requirement.) I think that his CDs are only available at his website for now (www.justinrosolino.com). I strongly recommend getting in on the ground floor of this artist with a great future. It's also really great to see so many Kate Rusby fans out there. Have you checked out her band "The Poozies"? Kate sang, played guitar, and keyboard. They are much more Irish than Kate's solo work, but if you like Kate, I'm sure you'll like them. Thank you Vanessa. And thank you Ron - for pissing when the stream was needed! For a minute I thought the Elite Police were going to take away my Late For The Sky and The Strong In Spirit cd's and force me to listen to Segovia all day. Now that I think we're safe I just wanted to comment on the recent Voices discussion. I too am a fan of Michael Jerling, but like with Gorka and just about everybody else, some of his stuff is better than others. This is where Richard content comes in. As much as I enjoy certain other artists, in my opinion there is nobody else out there who has maintained the level Richard has for 4 cd's now. As Hugh Blumenfeld wrote: "No songwriter working today has a higher reputation for craftsmanship and deep understanding of human drama. If you don't know his music, you don't know folk music today. Or tomorrow" Jeff ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V2 #24 **********************************
