Geez, what can I say except that I'm really sorry. See, this E-Mail hoax thing came to me from someone I really respect (a well known folk singer, whose name is better left unmentioned). Normally, I delete these things in a heartbeat. But I never meant to send it to the List -- I hit the Shindell button on my address book in haste. That's the truth. Nevertheless I shall take all the flames and darts like a man. The fact that I didn't know of this hoax in the first place is shameful enough. And to hear it's as old as Howie, well...Maybe I'd better rethink going to Falcon Ridge this year. Mea Culpa. I'd make it up to all of you....except, I'm not THAT sorry. Quick intro-I am a 20-something Software Engineer in the Philly area, been listening to Shindell for almost a year now. In my free time, I write songs and have been trying to find places to play. Amanda from the list gave me some suggestions for open mics in the area. Well I got to play 2 of them this week and I had a lot of fun. On Monday I went to the Gryphon Cafe in Wayne. Crowd seemed to be mostly in high school so I felt kind of old and out of it :-( They seemed to enjoy to my musings though...Did two originals and a Dan Bern song. Most of the acts were more "pop" or "punk" played on acoustic guitar (Had to sit through a 20-minute jam of Dave Matthews version of All Along the Watchtower, sorry not my cup of tea) and it seemed that everyone who performed would go out and smoke when the other acts were playing... (Listen to me, I sound like a grumpy old man!) Last night went to the Point in Bryn Mawr, where Richard played a few weeks ago. Much better crowd, older people, mostly all folky type stuff. I did Shades of Grey (not sure if people got the twist at the end though) and an original. Had a much better time there. Alot of great acoustic tunes! Everything from some old-timers doing CSN&Y to a young man who just started playing a few months ago (who still did a nice job on a Guster song) Next week I'll probably do a Richard Song. I can play the following - Next Best Western, Reunion Hill, I Saw my Youth Today, Are You Happy Now, Mary Magdalene, Iron Gate, Fishing, Summer Wind/Cotton Dress,Wisteria, Grocer's Broom, Transit, Abeluita, Well, thanks for reading this far and if anyone's interested in my music, I just put out a homemade CD. Info is at http://home.earthlink.net/~egordon99/seasons.html Finally, I am very upset that I'll be out of town when Richard comes to King of Prussia in May (the day before my B-day :-( Hope everyone has a great day! - -Evan Evan A. Guster is *bad*. Why does everyone like Guster? Am I the only one who knows that Guster is bad? Nothing but a bunch of guys playing the warmed over indie rock of yesteryear, just waiting to sell out to the mainstream. Their frontman is uninspiring, their melodies are cliche, and their writing is worse. Am I the only one who has this opinion? Just my two cents, though, for whatever that's worth.
