So, for instance, if my subject was "New release?", it would go to the shindell list list with a subject of "RS: New release?" As an example, the Patty Griffin list (mad-mission@smoe.org) abbreviates as "MM: " I don't really care if the subject is modified, because I sort the email according to the "To: or CC:" line into folders, so the subject doesn't enter into it for me... but a short abbreviation would be potentially useful for some folks... This is also true of the John Gorka list. I don't know if anything can be done, other than people putting "Shindell" somewhere in the subject when they send a message. <<< >> Hmmm . . . . I actually found the insertion of [Richard-Shindell] to be rather obnoxious, so I like the new look. << Gee whiz, we haven't even been here 24 hours and the complaints begin. Patience, folks, patience. We said it was going to take a little time to scope out all the idiosyncrasies of the new surroundings, and we're getting to all of it. We'll arrange to have the replies go to the list automatically, instead of to the author of the post, although I can see why some lists do it that way . . . it keeps much of the mail that really SHOULD be private email, private. Forcing the writer to manually DECIDE that he/she wants to send it to the whole list. But since this has never been a problem on this list, we'll change it as soon as we can. For the time being, you'll have to write in the address manually. The other issue, about an identifier in the subject, is something else we're looking at. The [Richard-Shindell] in the old subject headings never bothered me, but I understand the feelings both ways. Sally's moving this weekend and might not have a chance to get to it for a few days (she's the only one who understands the configuration thingy), so we'll address that issue as soon as we can as well. In the meantime, hold tight, and I'm sure within a few days all will be fine. Thanks. But if you join their CD club for twelve bucks a year, you get $2 off all CDs, all the time. Well worth it if you buy as much as I do. And they have a comprehensive Folk section, to boot. RG ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Mar 2000 10:38:11 -0500 From: Vanessa Wills Subject: RS: CD prices (Sorry you're getting this twice, Peter!) Well, I really only buy from my local independent record store--the Princeton Record Exchange (RecEx, for short). Most used CDs go for about $7.99, which is what I've paid for most of my Peter Gabriel and Nick Cave stuff, Luka Bloom "Salty Heaven," etc. I paid $1.99 each for Susan Werner "Last of the Good Straight Girls," Ani Difranco "Out of Range," and Tori Amos, "from the choirgirl hotel." New CDs cost between $9.99 and $17.99, usually falling around $13.99. I paid $9.99 for new copies of Old 97s "Fight Songs" and Chris Cornell "Euphoria Morning." I paid $14.99 for Richard Thompson "Mock Tudor." So, I seem to be avoiding this whole price inflation--thank goodness. Walk down the street, though, and Sam Goody's is charging an arm and a leg! - --Vanessa ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Mar 2000 23:12:36 EST From: "Sally Green" Subject: [RS] Testing! Today's Subjects: ----------------- _SUBJECTS-AUTHORS_ All right, all you squeaky wheels. You get the grease. I *think* I configured the list to have an [RS] in the subject line of the messages and to have the Reply-To be to shindell-list@smoe.org, so I'm posting now to see if I did it right. I'm learning all sorts of new things - you may notice that Vanessa's post had a hotmail signature appended to it, though she wrote from Princeton, and that the line wraps were messed up in her post, although they weren't like that to begin with. That is because there was some taboo word in her post, apparently, so I manually approved it. This may be old hat to many of you, but it's a first for me. Heh. I used to cut and paste the text of bounced messages and send it myself with a little note that said "This is from So-And-So, and it bounced." I'm going to see Richard May 6 at the Barns of Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA. - --Sally sallyagreen@hotmail.com ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Mar 2000 23:32:31 EST From: SMOKEY596@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] Testing!
