New releases are usually pitched towards £17 Irish Pounds (about $20) and CD singles are about half that price. Maybe Dave and Katrin could fillus in on prices their neck of the woods? You guys though have such a huge selection on offer. I could'nt believe my eyes when I was in some second hand CD stores last summer with Sharon, Dave and Katrin. This is also true of the John Gorka list. I don't know if anything can be done, other than people putting "Shindell" somewhere in the subject when they send a message. I don't know about the rest of you, but when I see mail from an address I don't know and an obscure subject, it's usually spam and gets deleted. I'd hate to delete some good stuff from the list, but I also would hate to read a bunch of spam looking for stuff from the list. Ah well....got my cranky venting out of the way and can now go on with my day. :-) SMOKEY ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Mar 2000 18:03:17 +0200 From: Katrin.Uhl@t-online.de (Katrin Uhl) Subject: RE: CD prices hi guys, weird, I hit the reply button and it used Pete's address instead of the RS-list. Is there a way to have it automatically reply to the list? The Peter Mulvey list is like that and every other mail I reply to goes to the individual person that wrote the prior mail instead of the whole list because I forget and just hit reply instead of reply to all... but that's not what I really wanted to say. Pete said: > > Maybe Dave and Katrin could fillus in on prices their neck of > the woods? new CDs are between 30 and 38 Marks, depending on what store. With the dollar being so terribly high against the mark that's not a lot of $, between $16 to 20, but it's actually worth more than that. > You guys though have such a huge selection on offer. I > could'nt believe > my eyes when I was in some second hand CD stores last summer with > Sharon, Dave and Katrin. oh, there is a huge selection here, just not in folk music. I hardly by in stores anymore though, mostly the internet. Or the US. The record was "100 Questions" by The Shramms. Also got a record from a site in Belgium, "erotica" by Angel Parra. The fine folks at smoe also do the Melissa Ferrick list and have [ferrick] in the subject line, and also just got the gig for the Catie Curtis list and have [dads-yard] in the subject field (for her song of that name). I hardly by in >stores anymore though, mostly the internet. Or the US. Popular CDs are usually fairly reasonably priced up here (I'm in Canada... Halifax, Toronto, or Ottawa depending on the time of year :) )... Anywhere from $14-20 (Canadian funds, of course), depending on the store and artist. To some extent it also depends on the city you're in. Toronto probably has the cheapest prices, just because of the sheer size of the place... huge population of music buyers, and lots of competition between stores and such. However, since my taste in music is anything but mainstream, I end up getting a lot of my music in used CD stores (where discs usually run me anywhere from $6-$12). I've had some great finds. I'm a big fan of The OysterBand (whose discs are usually pretty expensive to buy new here), and have found a number of their CDs used. In the past year or so I've also started ordering CDs online fairly frequently. I couple months ago I got Somewhere Near Paterson, and one other disc (Doug Cox, Life is So Peculiar) from CDNow and the total with shipping and taxes worked out to around $20 American (I had a $10 off coupon)... Not bad considering each CD would have cost me upwards of $25 to buy from a local music store. The Chapters.ca website also has a pretty good selection, and their prices aren't bad. I bought Richard's other three CDs from them. Karen NP: Simon Wilcox, "Mongrel of Love" (which was actually purchased at a gig... another great place to get CDs! ;-) ) Karen Parker parker@cs.dal.ca http://www.cs.dal.ca/~parker - ----------------------------------- "To pass the time I have been making up titles for white-collar folk songs: 'Journalist's Jig,' 'Lawyer's Lament,' 'Concerning an Architect named Joe,' 'The Chartered Accountant from Harbour Le Cou,' 'The Banker's Song,' 'The Real Estate Reel,' 'Come All Ye Civil Servants.' I like Catie Curtis too, but I'm not on her list. That's a great song! I saw her with Ellis Paul last month, and she sang that one (someone shouted it out). She and Ellis were both great that night! I know they are getting a big chunk of the money. It is also encouraging to see the deal Richard S. has made, where he has paid for a lot of the cost and will share the revenues. john alvord ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Mar 2000 17:28:24 -0800 From: ptpower@juno.com Subject: Re: ADMIN: Welcome to shindell-list SMOKEY vented: <> Hmmm . . . .
