Subject: [sheryl-crew] shezza blasts madonna must admit i have been neglecting the forum a bit but hey i'm back just been trawling through the world wide web and came across this Crow Lashes Out At Madonna Blames Madonna For Not Being Like Joni Mitchell by Dean Cameron Ignoring the entertainment industry before 1985, Sheryl Crow blames Madonna for women using sex to sell records. Crow recently said that she believes that the current trend of scantily clad females topping the charts is the fault of Madonna and not because men enjoy seeing scantily clad women. The singer says, "There's so much TV and so much exposure that a lot of these young girls can become successful overnight. With Madonna kind of ushering in the whole 'sex is power' thing, I think we got off course a little bit." "There's so much sex. It's about the look and the image, less about the talent. You have to have a good choreographer, good hair. I just find that females really have to sell a little too much of the image and could maybe get more into content." "Joni Mitchell was sexy - all those women that came out and wrote great songs were sexy, so we have to get back to that." judith _________________________________________________________________ Stay in touch with absent friends - get MSN Messenger http://www.msn.co.uk/messenger ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Feb 2004 08:36:46 -0800 (PST) From: Mike Sarzo Subject: Re: [sheryl-crew] shezza blasts madonna > Crow Lashes Out At Madonna > Blames Madonna For Not Being Like Joni Mitchell > Crow recently said that she believes that the > current trend of scantily clad > females topping the charts is the fault of Madonna > and not because men enjoy > seeing scantily clad women. And yet, look at the video for SUTS. Strikes me as being a tad hypocritical, don't you think? ===== Mike Sarzo "One thing I said I would never do was come from a place of fear... fear is nothing to me now/I no longer care." -- Stevie Nicks __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Most fans of Sheryl are not die-hard fans, so they aren't even aware of just how talented she really is. However, for Sheryl to judge Madge like that is downright hypocritical. Like I said, I love Sheryl, but she herself has done a little bit of "selling" herself as well. It has never been the focus of her career, but Sheryl has used opportunities to market herself in those unsavory ways. The SUTS video does show Sheryl in a different light, and yes, Mike, it does sound hypocritical, but I'll forgive her, won't you? ;) Brooke "Every man has to find something to believe in. I half expected to get a bunch of e-mails from people jumping down my throat because I dared to criticize the great Sheeza. (please don't take line that as condescending or hostile in any way... I'm about to make an observation that reflects well on this list!) It seems that a lot of the people here are able to be levelheaded about their fandom of Sheryl. I'm a major Stevie Nicks fan (it was Stevie who turned me on to Sheryl, if the truth must be told), but I have seen and have had to deal with fans who will jump on me for saying something even remotely critical or "objective" about Stevie. Nice going, guys. :) - --- FadedSign@aol.com wrote: > I love Sheryl, but no doubt, Sheryl has bitten that > bug as well. ===== Mike Sarzo "One thing I said I would never do was come from a place of fear... fear is nothing to me now/I no longer care." -- Stevie Nicks __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Wilkinson, III" Subject: RE: [sheryl-crew] shezza blasts madonna I'd have to agree pretty much with the facts here, but I'm not sure that I would cast it as hypocritical. I see it as primarily unhappiness with the ways in which she is forced to market herself. The record companies are buying sex; if you're not selling it, then you have a distinct problem. And I would say that she's a bit off-target, because Madonna didn't start this. She may typify the change, but the problem is that (1) the public is buying it, and (2) the record companies are catering to the lowest common denominator. And I would say that, after reviewing the videos from the Very Best of DVD, that the sexual aspect is there, but definitely not in the same vein as Britney Spears, for example. The SUTS video is a beach song; what exactly do you expect? If you think that is typical of Sheryl, you haven't been listening. Go back and listen to "What I Can Do For You". That song always makes me feel slimy. And, speaking of selling sex, Janet Jackson's nipple jewelry has overshadowed the fact that the whole show was pretty much garbage. I know someone they could have invited that would have done a better job. :-) John - -----Original Message----- From: owner-sheryl-crew@smoe.org [mailto:owner-sheryl-crew@smoe.org] On Behalf Of FadedSign@aol.com Sent: Wednesday, February 04, 2004 1:59 PM To: msarzo@yahoo.com; sheryl-crew@smoe.org Subject: Re: [sheryl-crew] shezza blasts madonna I love Sheryl, but no doubt, Sheryl has bitten that bug as well.
