Hey everyone, I've been trying to get away from sending a forward to a mass group of people, but there is a worm going around that is disguising itself as a security patch from Microsoft. According to information from Microsoft, they only provide security patches and updates on their website. Please do NOT open the so-called patch because it is a worm and it will go around sending itself to everyone in your address book. Please, PLEASE scan your computers and remove this or any virus from your systems! I have been slammed repeatedly with these e-mails, thus overloading my account on several occasions. The virus (or its perpetrator) apparently harvested addresses from newsgroups as well. There is a second way that the virus spreads, by using a malformed MIME attack. This can infect your computer *just by opening the e-mail*. You do not have to run the attachment (if there is one). You are likely to receive this attack in the form of a spurious e-mail failure notice. Check this link for more information: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.swen.a@mm.ht ml It has several other infection vectors, including Kazaa. I have received hundreds of these in the last two weeks. It's a bit of a pain downloading 100KB+ messages over dialup. :-( So please, do check your computer for the presence of this virus.
