[Oliver Schick > I don't get that either. I mean ya hafta admit the song is horribly cheesy (esp being w/ don henly), but in the same respect it is sooooo good. It just sucks ya in. I remember people asking about misunderstood lyrics... and I had one I wanted to post for a while, however I haven't posted for a while...so now that I am I hope it can be of use or interest. Also I'm wondering if anyone else heard this differently. In "Lucky Kid" two friends I make listen to Sheryl on two different occasions had thought that when she is yelling "wasted" that she's really saying "why you stare!??!?" I knew it wasn't because I had seen the lyrics, but if you listen to it think that she's saying "why you stare" it actually sounds like that & is funny cuz it's so ghetto. So now we always sing the wrong lyrics cuz they are funnier. try it out rachelle lee ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Jul 2002 11:25:45 EDT From: XMystery79@aol.com Subject: Re: [sheryl-crew] reply to katie, on behalf on an old-yimer In a message dated 7/25/2002 1:27:14 PM Eastern Daylight Time, KAMALA27@aol.com writes: > think that she was mine (not literally) but someone only I and a handful of > others knew about and it was something sacred and very cool and personal. > Now she's a rockstar and hangs out with hollywood and has had sugery and is > going through some midlife crises trying to regain her youth. > You're approximately the same age as me 22, and Sheryl was pretty popular when I got to know her...I never knew of Sheryl as anything but a famous recording artist. So just out of curiosity are you saying you've been a fan since you were like 13? I'm a little confused on the timeline is all. Now as for surgery...I assume you mean plastic and I just don't believe she's had any thing like that done, just because the timing doesn't add up...she had no time for taking tons of time off...scaring and all that would be visible. No one has ever claimed to see her like that. It was just a rumor that spread like wildfire...to me it's just the same old Sheryl. . << I guess I sound a bit bitter, but things are more detatched for me, for someone who got so emotionally attatched. i still LOVE her music and think the new album is the most amazing this she's done....with the exception on Soak Up The Sun, in fact I think that is theeee worst sonfg of hers and the fact that she put it out, she should be asham,ed of herslef it is so generic and cheesy... but she still is amazing. She is awesome live and seems to be a great person. But I know that she is a bit of a bitch, but she is also human and also got sucked into stardome. She's an original. uh huh. I don't want to criticize you, but it seems like your old devotion was a little extreme...so naturally you're going to feel betrayed or whatever when Sheryl doesn't live up to your expectations. I sort of understand...when I was 16 I was really into Sheryl's music and tried to catch all of the interviews and stuff. She said something, I don't remember what that I didn't agree with and I had to stop and say, wait a sec, she is a human afterall. I don't get where you say "she's a bitch...etc"....it's not as if any of us know her personally. She was extremely nice when I got her autograph...most of the reports on the forum seem to say that's pretty much the norm for her. Of course everyone has off days...but that doesn't make them "a bit of a bitch". In writing "You're an Original" Sheryl made her thoughts pretty clear. If you use her own "guidelines" from the song she doesn't fit...she's not manufactured pop after all. Her TNMC problems were partly due to the fact that she did want more control of her own music. When you sign with a label, it's just fact that you have to make concessions. Sheryl became a "star" because of her relentless touring and doing all the rounds w/ the press and everything. She didn't just pose on Rolling Stone and let people write things for her, she does it the hard way. <<> Well that's pretty normal. I'm not really concerned with having every b-side or every little thing I can get on ebay anymore myself. I just like the music and seeing her in concert. If I never meet her or get an autograph again I'm fine with that. I enjoy this list and the forum because of the other fans, not just because it's about Sheryl. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Jul 2002 11:28:15 EDT From: XMystery79@aol.com Subject: Re: [sheryl-crew] shezza In a message dated 7/25/2002 5:16:49 PM Eastern Daylight Time, Em481@aol.com writes: > > Ok, I have a question: What does Shezza stand for? It takes a while to get used to but I don't really have a problem with the song. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Jul 2002 21:07:13 -0400 (EDT) From: Oliver Schick Subject: [sheryl-crew] For the sake of old times ... Hi all, I've been on this list for a couple of years, never posted much though. I don't think I will in the future--but a short remark on on the present album: I don't like it very much, or at least not as much as her previous work; it seems to me uninspired where the other albums were inspired. She's talked about that in the press--she's been depressed and all that, and then (if you read between the lines) was pressurised by her new record company to release new 'material' (I hate that expression) even though she had no ideas. I saw her at a small London promo gig (Scala) where only two songs were requested (repeatedly)--'Crash and Burn' and 'Riverwide'--my two favourites, and I think her most inspired work. I was dead impressed by the people around me and felt almost ashamed for not making my voice heard, as well. But Sheryl was in Rock Star mode--'I'm not in a Riverwide mood tonight'--she had an ordained image to sell and she did it. It wasn't bad, you know, it was still good entertainment, and of course she forgot the words to AIWD, but the audience just weren't having it. People were dead quiet between songs. She was visibly irritated by that--'you know, you can talk to me', but she got no reaction. This small gig was full of people who'd bought her earlier records because they were full of feeling--off the new one, only 'Weather Channel' is--a bit (just my opinion). They clearly didn't like the formula stuff, like SUTS. Just that line 'I still wanna have some fun' is such a blatant allusion to AIWD, a song she has often said she doesn't like. Unlike Rachelle, I never got into Sheryl's work when she was still small, and I don't have a feeling that Sheryl's stuff was part of my growing up, either--but I really hope she finds inspiration again and gets over her depression. She'll be brilliant again when that happens. She's adequate now--but I really think the lack of posts is also to do with her being something of an entertainment fixture in recent times. She hasn't surprised anyone for a long time, and that's what she used to be brilliant at. Just my tuppence. Fingers crossed for her!
