In fact, I'm upset she even included it on her album (especially since "You're Not The One" didn't make the record). I like Stevie's version because of its simplicity and the emotion behind her voice. Besides, I think Sheryl is better doing background for Stevie than having Sheryl sing lead and Gwyneth Paltrow on backups. That's NOT a negative comment about Paltrow as a singer. She's a pretty damn good one. That song is simply better, lyrically and otherwise, on Trouble in Shangri-la than it is on C'mon C'mon. >From: "lisa grilli" >To: sarzom@hotmail.com >CC: Enchanted@enchanted.org >Subject: Re: [STEVIE] It's Only Love >Date: Thu, 09 May 2002 10:20:05 -0500 > >Hi Mike (and everyone)~ > >Sure, the musical differences between Sheryl's "It's Only Love" and >Stevie's >are apparent; I didn't mean to discount those. I do wonder why she put it on her album, but I'm sure it had Stevie's blessing. I don't think It's Only Love fits for some reason, probably because it's already been on Stevie's album. I know the story behind it, how Gwenyth encouraged her to put the song on the album, but I think it would have probably made a better B-side and she could have included It's Only Love on a single....oh well, the decision's already been made. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 May 2002 16:09:57 EDT From: XMystery79@aol.com Subject: Re: [sheryl-crew] Re: [STEVIE] It's Only Love In a message dated 5/9/2002 3:27:33 PM Eastern Daylight Time, iwannabeshezza@hotmail.com writes: > when she sings on strong enough on the > stroytellers i never thought someone could ruin a sheryl crow song but > stevie nicks manged to do that single-handedly sorry stevie fans but hey > i'm > english so probably don't appericate stevie as much > > I don't mind her voice, I think Stevie Nicks has a really original sound and the fact that she's had such a big influence on Sheryl hasn't lost me. I think the 2 sound great together personally. As for not caring for a duet...I hated Chrissie Hynde on IMYH from live from Central Park. It's one of my favorite songs and her voice just doesn't go with it I don't think. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 May 2002 19:17:22 EDT From: Diannesty@aol.com Subject: [sheryl-crew] Sheryl on Page Six by By RICHARD JOHNSON with Paula Froelich and Chris Wilson THE Tribeca Film Festival was given a star-studded launch Tuesday night when Robert De Niro and Vanity Fair editor in chief Graydon Carter were allowed to throw a dinner party for 175 of their best friends in the soaring rotunda of the State Supreme Courthouse at 60 Centre St. The bash - which started with outdoor cocktails on the top of the building's massive steps decorated with hundreds of votive candles - had several Oscar winners besides De Niro: Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt, Hilary Swank, Marcia Gay Harden and Harvey Weinstein, plus several who should have won, Martin Scorsese, Lauren Bacall, Sidney Lumet, Ellen Barkin and Chloe Sevigny. Many were checking out schoolteacher Paula Fortunata, the dark-haired beauty who was kissing Viacom-Universal chairman Sumner Redstone. Also there were architects Richard Meier and Charles Gwathmey; writers Salman Rushdie, Richard Price, Arthur Miller and Toni Morrison; funny men Jerry Seinfeld and Garry Shandling, and miscellaneous celebs Sheryl Crow and John McEnroe. I wonder who she hung out with all night! ------------------------------ End of sheryl-crew-digest V5 #104 *********************************
