A line around the block, waiting for Will Call and doors to open up. Mike Rowe walking around outside, checking out the crowd. David Spade checking in. Young ladies in birthday hats handing out lollipops. Is it 8:00 yet? Entered the theater shortly after 8:00. With an hour to kill, I headed for the bar to get some drinks. Bumped into none other than "tall and proud" Peter Stroud. Exchanged handshakes and hellos. Cool. One Merlot and one Corona... $12.00. Picked out my spot about fifteen feet from the stage, directly in front of Sheryl's mic stand. This is going to be good. Paul Stanley (KISS) partying with David Spade. The new album blastin' through the P.A. This (the album) is going to be good. Very good. At 9:30 (finally ;), the band hits the stage. Sheryl, Tim, Peter, Mike, Jim, Lorenza, and Matt. The gangs all here. Twenty-one songs, including six new, and a do-over. And it went something like this... Walk Away Soak Up The Sun My Favorite Mistake (take 1) MFM (take 2) *w/ Gweneth Paltrow Steve McQueen It's Only Love *w/ Paltrow No Matter What You Do C'mon, C'mon The Difficult Kind *w/ Paltrow Midnight Rider *w/ Don Henley and Bonnie Raitt Love Hurts *w/ Henley and Raitt Dead Flowers *w/ Raitt Every Day Is A Winding Road (slower, bluesy version) Wasted Do Ya Want My Love I Want You To Want Me *w/ Dwight Yoakam Crazy Little Thing Called Love *w/ Yoakam + Sheryl playing a rockin' piano You're An Original *w/ Doyal Bramhall ll Black Betty There Goes The Neighborhood (Audience sings "Happy Birthday") Good Times, Bad Times Tie Your Mother Down A solid two hours of music ending around 11:30 PM. Noteworthy: There were three video cameras. Two on tripods next to the soundboard and one handheld at the stage. Hmmm...??? Mike Rowe played bass on a few songs. Looks like he may be doing this on tour as well. Gweneth sings well with Sheryl. Doesn't yet know what to do with herself onstage though ;) At one point they both wore birthday hats. Sheryl's on her face like a bird beak. Crow? Right before the encore, Sheryl's manager and Laura Dern brought out a huge birthday cake that had a great likeness of Sheryl (about a foot tall) on it. Sheryl attempted to grap it by the legs and pop it off the cake, but didn't realize it was covered with frosting. She spent most of "Good Times, Bad Times" wiping her hands off :) Other celebs at the show... Ellen Degeneres, Meg Ryan, Kevin Bacon, Gwen Srefani, Beck, Elizabeth Shue, Blythe Danner... to name a few. The band, new songs, guests, all sounded great. A few goof- ups here and there on the cover tunes, but all in good fun. All that for only $30.00? Not too shabby. My only complaint was that they didn't play "If It Makes You Happy". Oh well...maybe next time ;) Chris Who then went home and watched it (IIMYH) on Bravo Musicians :) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Feb 2002 08:49:40 +0000 From: "Chris Van Doren" Subject: [sheryl-crew] Re: Sheryl in Stuff Magazine I found this on the Stuff on line site, those look like chaps! Sheryl just has to be lying about her age, how can you look that good at 40. I know there is special lighting and special filters to let your wrinkles disappear, but this is just amazing. I didn't even realize Jay Leno was doing shows during the Olympics. It's described as being on "after your late local news"; it's not listed in my tv guide. Oh, well, guess I'll try to tape it. I'll have to look more closely at Ryan Adams' guitar. I'm like everyone else; I just stare at the Trade Center while this video's on. (I like Ryan Adams; I just hope he's getting all this attention for the right reasons.) _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Feb 2002 13:40:34 +0100 From: "Brigitte (Westland Post)" Subject: [sheryl-crew] Sheryl on E! Star 98.7 FM Los Angeles is playing the radio edit of Soak Up The Sun in their regular rotation now. Just heard it :) Chris ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Feb 2002 19:36:14 EST From: EAO77@aol.com Subject: [sheryl-crew] SUTS on radio I was running errands and heard "Soak Up the Sun" on Seattle's KMTT the mountain this afternoon. The DJ, Marty Reemer, said that it was just handed to him and that it was written on with a Sharpie marker. He said that he thought Sheryl was at home burning them herself thinking, "got to get it out!" It was funny to picture that visual. : ) Just thought I'd share. ------------------------------ End of sheryl-crew-digest V5 #37 ********************************
