NEWS - Sheryl Crow Says Nashville's Mad At Her For Grammy Nom 01/17/2002 (1/17/02, 12 p.m. ET) -- Sheryl Crow's Grammy Award nomination for her cover of a Hank Williams song has some in the country music community none too pleased, the singer-songwriter tells LAUNCH. "My sister lives in Nashville and she says that Nashville is slightly pissed off about my nomination," Crow says. Presumably, at issue is the inclusion of Crow--a rock musician--in the category of best female country vocal performance, where her version of Williams's "Long Gone Lonesome Blues" will battle for the award with Jaime O'Neal's "There Is No Arizona," Dolly Parton's bluegrass cover of Collective Soul's "Shine," Trisha Yearwood's "I Would've Love You Anyway," and Lucinda Williams's own cover of Hank's "Cold, Cold Heart." Still, Crow appreciates the nomination. "I was really happy. I'm a huge Hank Williams fan and I have to say I kicked up my heels when I heard about it. I think it was my yodeling. It caught everybody off guard," she says. Both Crow's and Lucinda Williams's nominated songs appear on the various-artists collection, Timeless--Hank Williams Tribute, released last year by Lost Highway Records. This is the second Grammy nomination in a country category for Crow-- she was feted last year for best country collaboration with vocals for a version of her song, "Strong Enough," that also featured the Dixie Chicks. "I am inching my way into country music," she jokes. - -- Neal Weiss, Los Angeles For more news at LAUNCH, click here. Sheryl is definately as "country" as Jaime O'Neal or Trisha Yearwood. She grew up in a small town in Missouri - how much more "country" can you get? :-) Brigitte - Don't worry - there's NO chance of me becoming a serious runner! :-) But I think Sheryl is. Articles always mention how she was on the track team in high school, and in the Esquire article, she talks about her daily 40-minute "gratitude jog." (http://www.esquire.com) I'll stick to walking, myself. I don't mind if people plug other music lists they think Sheryl fans might be interested in. Who knows, maybe Sheryl herself will sign up for the 70's classic rock list! :-) Have a good weekend everyone. I'm off to check the tabloids for pix of the AMA show. I'll let you know what I find. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jan 2002 20:49:24 -0800 From: "Gregg Dempsey" Subject: [sheryl-crew] The album has a name.
