Gregg reported that Tim Smith will be there also. Trott steps into spotlight with an advanced album 09/07/01 If someone were to ask who ranks as Portland's most successful songwriter, most local rock fans likely would point to Everclear's Art Alexakis. That's a perfectly reasonable choice, supportable on the basis of sales statistics and media exposure. But there's another viable candidate whose name isn't nearly as well-known. Jeff Trott has kept a low profile since moving to Portland four years ago, but his heavyweight resume belies his unassuming manner. He co-wrote many of the songs from Sheryl Crow's Grammy-winning second and third albums, including such hits as "If It Makes You Happy" and "My Favorite Mistake," and earned an award from BMI as songwriter of the year in 1998. A guitarist with a terrific knack for complementary texture and the resonant riff, he's played not just with Crow but also with Wire Train, World Party, Pete Droge, Tears for Fears and others and has produced recordings by Stevie Nicks, Susanna Hoffs, etc. At last Trott is ready to step out on his own with a forthcoming album called "Dig Up the Astroturf," a gem of neo-psychedlic guitar pop recorded for the advanced 5.1 Surround Sound audio format. Not many folks have taken the plunge for such audiophile home equipment, but Trott will present his music with that technology in a series of Monday night shows this month at Ohm. His newly formed band includes such talents as Dahlia's Keith Schreiner, the performance will be augmented by video projections, and Trott even suggests that some very special guest stars (think of who he's worked with) might join in. Of course, all the name-dropping and knob-twiddling wouldn't amount to much without good songs. But you can expect Trott to have that part well-covered. 9 p.m. Monday, Ohm, 31 N.W. First Ave.; $5 at the door (503-223-9919). -- Marty Hughley Wherever you go, there you are. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 07 Sep 2001 21:14:04 -0700 From: Chris Ketchum Subject: [sheryl-crew] February album release For those who haven't heard yet... Bad news: During a MTV VMA's post-show interview with Kurt Loder, Sheryl said that her new album will not be coming out until February. Good news: She didn't say March ;) Chris ------------------------------ End of sheryl-crew-digest V4 #234 *********************************
