While Nicks' voice sounded strong after her bout with laringitis, she gave a less-than-inspired show with a number of the songs in her set. Nicks' face looked puffy - possibly from battles with asthma or the laringitis - and even "Stand Back" and "Dreams" were missing much of the energy they usually had. Case in point: Nicks made a slo-motion leg kick during "Stand Back" and her eyes looked like they were nearly closed much of the night. Nicks made her second switch in the set list, switching "Sorcerer" and "Everyday" so that the latter tune came between "Gold Dust Woman and "Sorcerer." The move made sense: Separating two songs that were stylistically similar and were about similar themes - drugs. One of the few times that Nicks seemed to wake up from her stupor was for the song "Fall From Grace," which didn't have as much intensity as the Blockbuster Awards version that caused Nicks to steal a spotlight originally taken by the likes of Ricky Martin and Creed, but still nearly packed enough punch to save the show from its doldrums. As has been well chronicled during earlier stops on the tour, Nicks didn't even try the falsetto during "Sorcerer" that Crow was able to coax from her in the studio, and it sounded like it missed something live, though it still sounded fine. It transfers to the stage better than "Planets of the Universe," which sounded especially uninspired on the stage that night. However, the least impressive song of the night for Nicks and her band, which included barely adequate guitar playing from Waddy Wachtel, was "Edge of Seventeen," which barely edged out the too-poppy "Everyday" for that dishonor. Nicks looked like she barely had enough energy to stand during "Edge," which normally brings out a more spry Nicks, as it did during the AHI benefit in September 2000. Wachtel's guitar playing made him seem more apt for a punk rock band, as his "Think Punk" t-shirt suggested. However, Nicks had a little more left in the tank for her cover of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' "I Need to Know," which was the other song that seemed to wake Nicks up. The other highlight of the show was the top hat with the wild feathers she wore during the second encore, "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You." Even though Nicks gave the worst show I've seen her do in the audience that night, it still left many of the audience in awe of Nicks, and it still showed some of the younger pop divas how a real artist gets it done.
