No matter whether or not Christine is actually on the album or touring, I will always consider her part of Fleetwood Mac. I was not slighting Christine's accomplishments with the band; in fact, I was saying that I consider her an essential part of the band. It's the talk of Sheryl "replacing" Christine that irks me. Even if Sheryl were to play keyboards and record with the rest of the Fleetwood Mac lineup, I'll be damned if I accept her as part of the band if they do indeed ask her to join. That's not a knock against Sheryl in any way. I can now honestly say I love Sheryl. I respect the heck out of her as a musician, singer, songwriter, producer, and arranger. I think she'd be welcomed as a COLLABORATOR with Fleetwood Mac, but I would RESENT her JOINING Fleetwood Mac, especially if she's seen as Christine's replacement. I would also resent Ann Wilson if she "replaced" Stevie in Fleetwood Mac, and Ann's one of my favorite voices in rock. I'd resent Eric Clapton if he "replaced" Lindsey Buckingham, and we know what Clapton can do with a guitar; Jim Bogios if he "replaced" Mick Fleetwood, and I like Jim for reasons that would best be described as TMI; I'd even resent Rudy Sarzo (my own cousin!) if he "replaced" John McVie. I have a healthy respect for Fleetwood Mac's blues era and for Fleetwood Mac in its pre Buckingham-Nicks days, but when I think of Fleetwood Mac, I automatically think of the Rumours Five. Christine is, always has been, and always be a vital part of that unit. With Sheryl working on a new album and probably planning a tour in support, when would she have time? I would chalk that up as a rumor. - ---------------------------------------------------- Join Care2.com's Race for the Rain Forest! Call me totally stupid... > but does Sheryl play keyboards? > > Not gonna call you stupid, but yes Sheryl does play keyboards. :) She even tried running the band from behind the keyboard (I think this was during the TNMC tour in 94 or 95) but decided it wasn't really possible. So yes, she does know how to play them, but rarely does anymore by her own choice. I also don't think there's any reason to be "outraged" yet about the rumor of Sheryl joining FM. I think Sheryl as a fan of FM would be hesitant to do that, and she probably would consider the backlash if she did so. She also wouldn't in my opinion sacrifice her career to do so. And when someone says joining, it could be a loose term, as if someone were to say Sarah Mclachlan joined Sheryl on stage go sing The Difficult Kind. It could be something as simple as that. - ---------------------------------------------------- Join Care2.com's Race for the Rain Forest! It could also be argued that Stevie Nicks had established enough of a solo career that she didn't need to rejoin Fleetwood Mac either. Actually, the thought of hearing Sheryl sing some of her songs with Fleetwood Mac, which has always been a much different sounding band live than on disc, is somewhat intriguing to me. I would love to hear, for example, "There Goes the Neighborhood," done this way. Now this started because I saw an interview in which Ms. Nicks was asked about the future of Fleetwood Mac and whether it would ever get back together as a unit now that Christine McVie has stated that she would not be a part of any more reunion efforts. Ms. Nicks said plans were in the works for Fleetwood Mac to reunite after she finishes proomoting "Trouble in Shangri-La" and Lindsay Buckingham finished working on his project and, she added, that Sheryl would be a part of it. She did not say, nor did the interview include a question, to define exactly what "a part" would be. ------------------------------ End of sheryl-crew-digest V4 #173 *********************************
