I got there way early and landed a spot touching the stage directly in front of Sheryl. It was a very small, low-to-the-ground stage with very little space for movement...and they had it crammed with drums, amps, wires everywhere...there was barely enough space for them to move around. The bar itself was TINY! Sheryl was definitely in a GREAT mood. She appeared to be having a lot of fun. The special guests of the evening (in this order) were Kid Rock, Keith Richards, and Stevie Nicks. Kid Rock sang "Sweet Home Alabama" (very fitting for me considering I am moving from NYC to Alabama in ten days!) an Alman Bros. song, the "President" song (I'm sorry, but I think this song sucks!) during which Sheryl snuck onto the stage and teased the audience like she was going to lift her shirt, and he hung around on stage for a few others singing along side of Sheryl. They were definitely openly affectionate with each other (at one point Sheryl grabbed his a**). Sheryl was drinking a budweiser and occaisonally lit up a cigarette (I didn't know she smoked?). Keith Richards came on stage and played guitar and attempted at singing :) with Sheryl on a few songs. My friend wrote down the set list so I will try to forward it to the list when I get it. Stevie was next and she appeared to be HIGH on something. Her eyes were almost closed shut, she couldn't remember the lines to songs, and she was acting like she was drunk. Sheryl had to coach her through two of the songs by mouthing the words to her. However, the highlight of the entire evening was when they sang "Leather and Lace" together. It was amazing. They also did "Stop Dragging My Heart Around" which was also good. Stevie tried to sing back up on "The Difficult Kind" but didn't know the words or the key to sing them in. It was awful! There were SO many stars who came to see Sheryl's show. Kevin Bacon, Meg Ryan, Angelica Houston, Ben Stiller, and the cute guy from Erin Brochovich (the boyfriend/biker guy) were all there just a few feet from the stage! I don't know if any others were there but these are the ones I saw. OH!!! And Owen Wilson was there too (Sheryl's ex). I thought that was interesting. Sheryl played from about 10:45pm or so until about 1:15am. Anyway, I am sorry if this post is a little fragmented...I have had a total of 10 hours sleep in the past two days and I just got back from taking my licensing exam for social work so needless to say I am way past exhausted mentally. I'll try to compose myself and give more coherent details later. Dave ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 May 2001 17:49:43 EDT From: Mauseee@aol.com Subject: [sheryl-crew] NYC show Oh, and I forgot to say...they were EXTREMELY strict about cameras. At first they told us all bags would be searched and all cameras would be taken away! But then they just said that anyone caught taking a picture would be thrown out! They did have a photographer there who was snapping shots periodically. I think maybe they will be in People mag or something. Let the list know if you see pics in any magazine from last night. Md.) This ran in the May 1 issue of The ECLIPSE (the black student newsmagazine at the University of Maryland) Great Album No Trouble for Nicks ================================ by Mike Sarzo ECLIPSE Staff Writer Until U2 released All That You Can't Leave Behind last year, the idea that rock acts would release an album that ranked with the best material in their long careers was almost unheard of. But Stevie Nicks also turned the trick with Trouble in Shangri-la, her first studio album in seven years, and arguably her best work since her solo debut, 1981's Bella Donna, sold 4 million copies. Despite having many different producers for the album's 13 tracks, the songs blend extremely well and showcase a variety of styles, from country-spiced ("Too Far From Texas") to Latin- flavored ("Bombay Sapphires"), to pop ("Everyday," and Love Changes"), to ballads ("Love Is," I Miss You.") But Nicks is at her best when she rocks, and the album includes that element. The powerhouse rocker "Fall From Grace" brought the house down at the Blockbuster Awards when Nicks and good friend and producer of five Trouble in Shangri-la songs, Sheryl Crow, sang it April 10. "Planets of the Universe" sounds starkly different from demo versions of the song that were almost sweet-sounding, but have been described by longtime fans as depressing. The song transformed into a defiant, mid-tempo rocker for the album. Nicks included several songs that could only be described as complex, from layered vocals in the title track to sounds in "Bombay Sapphires" that could work on a jazz station or one that plays R&B. But another album highlight is a very simple-sounding song with many possible interpretations, "It's Only Love." Crow wrote the song for Nicks when she thought about the stories her friend told her about her life, and the song makes it clear that Crow understands Nicks better than anyone who hadn't known Nicks for 20 years. The most remarkable thing about the album is that of the 13 tracks, nine are worth playing over and over again. That doesn't mean that no songs stand out; in fact, "Fall From Grace" and "It's Only Love" are the two strongest. The weakest tracks, "That Made Me Stronger" and "Everyday" are songs I'd have to be in the right mood to hear. Since Trouble in Shangri-la is in stores today, run, don't walk to the store or surf the Internet to an online store and get a copy of the album. There's something for everyone from the casual listener to the shawl-wearing, tambourine shaking Stevie Nicks freak to appreciate. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 May 2001 00:33:19 EDT From: TEBSCDMB@aol.com Subject: [sheryl-crew] SHERYLS STILL COMING TO MICHIGAN!!! acording to pollstar.com sheryl has two concerts planned as follows Fri 07/06/01 Muskegon, MI Heritage Landing Sun 08/12/01 Billings, MT Montana Fair when i called up to traverse city they said someone was going to pay her more and this place apparently is so im going to do a little more research and see what i can find.
