Ok, I feel I need to say something also, cause I feel partially responsible for starting of the interesting conversations on this list. It was said because one wasn't going to buy the new album because of the collaborations on it, he wasn't a fan. I'm a fan of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers also, a band that has been in the buisiness for 26 years and made a dozen of albums. And I can tell you, that it can happen that you don't like all the albums an artist has made. I have them all but I don't like every one of it. I can tell you stories of fans who absolutely hate Wildflowers (an album Tom Petty made solo in 1995). Now because Sheryl only has made 3 albums so far, it could be weird for others if someone wasn't going to buy the fourth. But probably you don't like all the songs she has made either. There must be at least one, that you totally can't stand. It happens... but it doesn't make you a less bigger fan of her. If you see yourself as a fan, then you are one. I don't think there are any criteria for that. When the new album True Believers comes out, I think I will just listen to it in the store first. If I don't like it, I won't buy it. But I'm curious of it though. Please stop that mess now, what do we care if you won't buy her next album or if she is going with Kid Rock or if it's a good thing or not? It is a big kind of Stevie Theme party where all these people dress up like Stevie Nicks, the club is decorated in Stevie type stuff (tamborines, white doves, etc.) and they play her music non-stop. They have a show where people dressed as Stevie (both men and women) get up on stage and perform her songs...some lip sync, some don't. They had her movements down! Some of them really did a fabulous job. Anyway, I went with two friends of mine, one of whom is a HUGE Stevie fan and who has recently become a Sheryl fan as well. We thought there might be some Sheryl content...but there wasn't. Then again I left a bit early...it went on until 4am. I did see a girl there who looked like Sheryl though...she looked SO much like her but she was WAY too tall. Sorry for the non-Sheryl post...just thought some of you might be interested...or at least could get a chuckle out of it. I sure did last night! Hope I can live up to that request. "The Globe Sessions" just didn't strike me as being as 'signature sound' as the first two. Part of this stems from the simple fact that "Sheryl Crow" may very well be one of the best albums to have come out in the last ten years or so. I listened to it dozens of times from release until 1998 or so, and for whatever reason, it was just better in my opinion. 'Mississippi', 'Members Only', and 'Crash and Burn' kind of all fell flat for me. Ditto for 'Am I Getting Through--Part II' and 'Subway Ride'.[1] Conversely, there's almost no song on "Sheryl Crow" that I don't like. In fact, I can't think of any. I also miss whatever accent she used to have in TNMC and SC---I prefer the girl from Kennett, not a New York City carpetbagger. Go West, young lady![2] Some reviewer said TGS was an attempt at a solidly rock album, and that they didn't like that. I heartily agree, because that's the closest anyone's ever come to putting a label on the nebulous dissatisfaction I had with TGS. Anyways. Michael [1] If indeed that's what it's called; I don't listen to that song. Its presence on the album came close to making me shelf the thing permanently. [2] "Young" being used in a loose sense.
