Gwyeth Paltrow has a really beautiful voice. That's all I'm going to say. I don't need to comment on this topic anymore. All I know is that some labels were inquiring about Gwyneth recording an album, but she declined, citing acting as her true passion. >To be honest, Gwyneth Paltrow's voice is not that of a professional >musician. Thanks to DaveP who sent me a cd with Sheryl's new song, "Kiss that Girl" on it. I dunno why I feel like sharing my opinions about it cuz I was eager to hear it after reading some other members' views on it. My opinion: How in the world can Sheryl hit the notes that frickin' HIGH?! Daaaang. I used to sing like that, but now it's totally impossible. Personally, I'm having a hard time even acknowledging that it's a Sheryl song cuz it sounds so different. I was going to say it doesn't sound like her, but only Sheryl fans would easily recognize it's her. I like the music and I like the song...but the voice...errrg. I hope the new album isn't like this. If so...I dunno...I guess I'll lock myself in a dungeon somewhere. ===== ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ "So play the game 'Existence' to the end." - John Lennon ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Yahoo! With all due respect, Mike, you keep speaking of "a return to the sound of TNMC & SC". Those two albums each have a distinctive sound all of their own and I wouldn't lump them together as the same sound. I respect the fact that you like the earlier albums better than her later stuff. That's all well and good, you're entitled to your own opinion. But if I may, I'd like to give you some perspective. Imagine (no pun intended) if The Beatles had never changed thier sound and always stuck with the sound of their first few albums, you know, that cutesy sort of sound like "love me do" and "I want to hold your hand" and so on and so forth. We would never have experienced the "Sergeant Pepper" album or the "White Album" or "Abbey Road" for that matter. Now, I don't know if you even like or care about The Beatles, but regardless, you have to respect their position as musical icons. My point is, would they have lasted as long, been as successful, or be held in as high regard if they hadn't grown and evolved musically throughout the years? Just some food for thought. - -----Original Message----- From: Mike Sarzo [mailto:sarzom@hotmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, April 24, 2001 1:33 PM To: sheryl-crew@smoe.org Subject: Re: [sheryl-crew] Re: No Offense but... Stevie Nicks is truly an "established" singer. I'll grant that in an instant. Her career's been successful probably longer than I've been alive---Fleetwood Mac ain't the name it is for nothing. I would go on to say that in a Sheryl Crow-Stevie Nicks collaboration, all the benefit goes to Crow in the manner of "marrying up", so to speak. It's rather nice of someone like Stevie Nicks to reach down and agree to work with an artist of lesser stature. Now, now! I think we're past the point of thinking that Sheryl doesn't have the stature Stevie Nicks has. Nicks' career had been on a downward spiral from about 1985 until about 1995, so she's basically been living off "legend" status for a while. After hearing the new album, I think that might change; however, that change would have to go against the trend of teen pop queens and boy bands with their meaningless bubble gum pop. In short, I think Sheryl has more than enough stature to say she's an established star in her own right, and I think she's pretty damn close to where you seem to put Nicks, even though you also say you're not a fan of hers. If I had my say-so, I'd prefer a return to the sound of her first two commercial releases, but that ain't where she's going, soo... I'll be honest. There's a point when you as an artist should try to grow and try something else. I think Sheryl's reached that point because people are starting to talk about a "Sheryl sound," even with the Stevie Nicks songs she produced. That doesn't mean Kid Rock. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
