Amanda, Well, I am from France and Sheryl is not as big in France as she is right here (I am in the US right now) so she only goes to Paris whenever she tours Europe. Anyways, last two times she came around (in October 1996 and February 1999) she was sold out. Actually, for the Globe Sessions Tour, she was planned to play at the same venue she played in for the Sheryl Crow Tour but it appeared it was sold out 10 days after the tickets went on sale so they had to change for a bigger venue. So, Sheryl seems to have gotten more and more popular in France over the last couple of year even though she is not really famous over there (popular music in France is mostly made of Rap and Dance type thingy, which really sucks, hence my moving to the US) Hope it sort of anwered your question. Take it easy guys Anne _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Mar 2001 22:19:48 EST From: XMystery79@aol.com Subject: Re: [sheryl-crew] Has Sheryl Sold Out??? One of my peeves is when someone calls some band a sell out..but alas no rant today. ;) I've seen her 4, including Lilith fair. I'm not sure if they sold out, but they were very close to it all 4 times. The first concert I went to in 95 (Cleveland) wasn't sold out, but a very respectible crowd, about 3,500 out of a 4,000 seat capacity. The 97 tour which was in a bigger venue was probably 3/4 full maybe a little more (Cleveland again), but I don't think it was officially sold out. The concert at the Beacon Theater in NY may very well have been sold out, the place was packed (and it smelled like wet dogs, hahaha). My friend told me that Sheryl is very popular concert draw in NYC, alot of the yuppy types like to go to her shows. I saw a variety, hippies, yuppies, teenies, and then everyone else. It was cool. Lilith fair was very crowded, I don't know if they ever consider it a sell out or not, but I would say it was a full house. Now about Destiny's Child. I'm not gonna say they don't have talent because they obviously have some pretty decent vocals, but all 3 of those girls combined don't have the musical knowledge or credentials Sheryl has. Look at the list of people she's played with. She's produced tracks for Stevie Nicks. She plays too many instruments to even name. I don't know anyone who would seriously argue DC was better than Sheryl overall. Besides, I think concert sales aren't an accurate way to judge talent, or who is the better live performer. Two different genres and musical styles, it seems like a weird comparison. The fair way would be to have an objective person go to both concerts before making a comparision or decision. - ---------------------------------------------------- Join Care2.com's Race for the Rain Forest! Sheryl is one of the few artists all three of us in my apartment can agree upon. My singer-songwriter roommie mentioned her in one of his songs, so that tells you something. My other roommate was VERY impressed with Sheryl's performance of "Run Rudolph Run" during A Very Special Christmas 2000 (it's my favorite version of that song, BTW). One of the things that impresses my singing roommate about Sheryl is the fact that Sheryl can switch between bass and guitar in her live shows. He was floored when I told him she played piano on "Home!" As for me, the thing that sticks out in my mind is the fact that she rose up to the challenge she spelled out when producing Stevie Nicks' album: Capturing the essence of Stevie on tape. If you listen to the songs Sheryl produced on Trouble in Shangri-la, you'll see what I mean. The song Sheryl wrote for Stevie is one of Stevie's favorites to sing (not that there's a single clunker on the album) and shows me that she understands Stevie better than anyone in Stevie's life who hasn't known her at least 20 years. In addition, the Sheryl-produced songs are very well done and show that Sheryl is a very good producer in her own right. Now what did that person say about Destiny's Child? _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Mar 2001 23:07:11 -0700 From: "Clint Curry" Subject: Re: [sheryl-crew] Has Sheryl Sold Out??? I've been to three Sheryl concerts in/around Salt Lake City. The first one was in 1997 at Abravanel Hall, a smaller, theatre-type venue. I would say it was sold out, or it felt that way. The second concert was at Wolf Mountain Amphitheatre in Park City. This seemed sold out too, all of the bleacher seating was full, plus the general admission on the mountain side was occupied. The third concert, during the 1999 tour, was different. It was a much larger venue then Abravanel Hall, a smaller arena, but the concert wasn't sold out. I would say it was about 60% full, it kind of made me feel kinda bad for Sheryl. I realize this probably happens every so often, but I still felt uncomfortable, and I still wonder if Sheryl will return to Salt Lake because of this. Overall, I think the ratio of the crowd to the venue compacity contributes to the feeling of the concert. I really liked the first two because they were a fuller audience, it was just more comfortable. During the third concert I kept looking back at the empty seats in the back section, it just wasn't as relaxed as the other two concerts. So, my point is I would rather see a concert in a smaller, packed venue then a larger, semi-full concert, both for my sake and the artist's.
