"Beck, Garbage, Sheryl Crow, and others have tried to leave or sue that company, and they've all been shut down or threatened." Crow's attorney, Jay Cooper, said, "Sheryl expressed some unhappiness but never threatened to sue, and eventually we renegotiated the contract." He concurred with Love, however, that the record labels often have the advantage over artists. "The record companies have a lot of strong bargaining power because the artists don't have a lot of places they can go," he said. "I think this case will have an impact on the industry and can change the terms of contracts," he explained. "Many artists feel they are tied to the contracts for too long." ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 03 Mar 2001 11:46:43 +0100 From: Philippe Mora Subject: [sheryl-crew] Sorry, I forgot to put url ! Eminem's fellow Detroit native rapper, Kid Rock, gave his wholehearted seal of approval, hailing the collaboration the harbinger of a change in attitudes: "There's nothing more positive than that right there. Elton John was my first concert, and Eminem is one of my friends. I think it's great." Sheryl Crow took an opposing stance, saying: "I love Elton, but to be perfectly honest, Eminem is not apologising for what he says about gays and [I think that] people side with him because he's cool and cutting edge and people feel that it's hip to side with him. What song describes you best? "'Super Freak' by Rick James or 'She Works Hard For The Money' by Donna Summer." What is heaven? "A good night's sleep." What is hell? "A lack of sleep. And I hate doing domestic chores." What's your earliest memory? "I can remember things from before I could talk. The earliest thing is probably being asleep in my grandfather's cot." What is your greatest fear? "That someday I run out of things to say." Who is your all-time hero? "John Lennon. He had a creative energy which I haven't seen since." What's the worst trouble you've been in? "Staying out all night when I was 17. I was on a date and we got caught in a snowstorm." Who was the first love of your life? "A guy when I was 17 at high school, Pete." What's your greatest talent? "I'm a whiz in the kitchen." Upon whom would you most like to exact revenge? Why? How? "Nobody really. I think success is the best antidote to revenge." What's your most treasured possession? "A 1962 Sunburst Telecaster given to me by a fan. He just came up to me and said he wanted me to have this guitar." What have you most regretted doing while drunk? "Throwing up in the Camden Underworld on my birthday in 1992. I'd been drinking Maker's Mark onstage and then tequila slammers. I was carried out." What can you cook? "Chicken and dumplings." What's the best piece of advice you've received? "Always wear clean underwear when you're travelling. From my mother." Can you read music? "Yeah." If you were invisible for a day, what would you do? "I'd hang out at the Oval Office and listen to what they get up to in there." What are your three final wishes? "That the world doesn't explode on January 1, 2000. We get another 365 on top of the 365 days in 2001, and that I win the lottery." There's just something about him. For the Eminem thing, it's funny, she started out saying his record was good, but I guess she didn't like how the media was making her sound like a fan so she's being more blunt now. I kinda knew something was up during the grammies when Elton and Eminem got a standing ovation and Sheryl was one of a couple people sitting still and she was right in the front row. I don't even think she was clapping....or if she was it was half heartedly.
