Hey people, this is going to ond liek a really strange question but what do you think all the little bits in Hard to Make a Stand mean? Am I just stupid is it really obvious? lol oh well...... I was just wondering cos I was listening to it and suddenly realised I had NO idea what the relevence of the flower guy is but most importantly I SO dont get this bit: "she went to take care of her own body, but she got knocked down in the road, and she looked up before she went said this ist really what I meant and the daily news said two with one stone" I hoep thats right cos I just wrote it from memory...what are your thoughts on it cos im clueless :) byebye Tom ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Feb 2001 12:29:10 -0800 (PST) From: Anne Etienne <_anne_19_@yahoo.com> Subject: Re: [sheryl-crew] Hard To Make A Stand: meaning??? Tom, I remember her saying at the beginning of one of the live performances of that song she did that it was written out of something she has seen. Her words -what I remember of them- were: We were hanging around in Pasadena and we saw that guy sitting out of a store. He was 70-year-old, dressed like a woman and called himself Miscreation. He was handing out flowers and people were scared and wouldn't get near him, so I loved that concept. This song was also written at the time when they blew an abortion clinic in Florida and that tells us that we have to be careful and to raise our kids with love and tell us what love means. So, I guess that that "Old James Dean Monroe" guy is actually that weirdo that she saw in Pasadena and that "friend" who "went to take care of her own body..." is a reference to the women that were in that abortion clinic (to take care of their own bodies) and got injuried/killed in the explsion. Hope all that makes sense, anyways, the whole songs was made of bits and pieces that apparently struck Sheryl right before she wrote it. Take it easy guys... But I totally forgot the title. Does anyone remember what movie that was? Oh and about the question what The Globe Sessions costs in Holland. Depends to which store you go to. If you go to www.plato.nl (my fav recordstore) you pay around 39,99 NLG. If you go to a warehouse 42,95 NLG. I bought it for 15DM (which is around 17 NLG) on the german E-bay :-) Cd's are very expensive in some countries in Europe. The governments of The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and I think Britain and France (but not completely sure) are now debating about it. They suspect that the prices are held high on purpose by recordcompanies and the whole sale departments that deliver the cd's to the stores. When you buy a new cd now, it can go up to 44,95 NLG. Which is around 20 dollars. And that is for a single album. Don't even get me started on the double albums! No wonder I only bought 2 'new' cd's last year (Johnny Cash and The Wallflowers) the rest were 'old' and on sale, I copied from the library or ripped of Napster. I'm not gonna buy a cd for the same price I can do a week groceries for. I just simply refuse too!
