Oooh ... a cease and desist letter. Aren't those fun? Some random thoughts: - - If they push it, GeoCities will probably squirm and boot you even if they legally don't have to. - - Look on Slashdot.org for similar stories, as well as fandom.com; they (supposedly) help people out who have corporate types breathing down their neck. - - The music industry needs to remove its head from its ass and realize that they are getting free advertising, promotion and advocacy from you and should be thanking you (and people like you) instead of scolding you. Music sales are breaking records (pardon the pun) year after year -- and the industry is busy chasing down napster, lyric search engines and fan sites. They just don't get it. What they should be doing is going after professional bootleggers and pirates who sell other people's music for a profit. Now I am going to go get my instructor who is the director of international marketing for BMG Canada. He was probably just trying to get us off his back about Napster. But he did say that they are working on figuring out a way to charge people for downloads, so I think it's going to happen (cause you know...he has to sit through all their conventions and meetings and shit). It might take awhile so get all you need while you can! hehe >Christina wrote: > >>It's not a widely known fact that Bertellson Music Group (BMG) bought >>Napster, and as soon as they figure out exactly what the structure is going >>to be, they are going to start charging a fee for downloads. > >BMG didn't buy Napster, though they are giving them money. Hey Crew, A while ago I made a compilation of Sheryl's b-side songs, but the CD got a little screwed up so I had to start over. The only reason for starting over was that it cut off "Sweet Child O' Mine," so of course I had to make another copy. The other day I was cleaning and I found the CD. I have no use for it, so I was wondering if anyone wanted to trade/buy it. I really want a CD copy of the "Angels, Aliens, and Elvis" bootleg, so if someone has that and wants to trade, great! Otherwise, just e-mail me and let me know what you can trade or if you just want to buy the CD (I'm somewhat new to the trading world). Here's the track listing: 1. Hundreds Of Tears 2. D'yer Mak'er 3. Reach Around Jerk (Live) 4. I'm Going To Be A Wheel Someday 5. Keep On Growing 6. Sad Sad World 7. In Need 8. Hard To Make A Stand - Alternate Version 9. Resuscitation 10. Carolina 11. Straight To The Moon 12. Blue Christmas 13. Sweet Child O' Mine (only plays 1/3 of song) 14. Father Son (performed by Wynonna) 15. Somebody Stand By Me (performed by Stevie Nicks) All of these songs come from CD's I own and all are studio sessions (except #3). Everything on the CD is fine except for some reason "Sweet Child O' Mine" got cut off and only plays 1 minute, 20 seconds of the song. E-mail me if you're interested. [Note that I said professional bootleggers, concert boots are cool. :) See "Grateful Dead."] i don't think you get it at all. Firstly with the Dead for 10 years or so they had tapers belted up to stop them from taping. Now taping is done and it is done with NO money chaging hands. Not a cent . you can trade, you can do what are called do b&p's blanks & postage. there is even a official band taping policy. so you support proffessional bootleggers making money from sheryl crow? fair enough.. i know i am wasting my time, but you tell her that next time you see her....ok mark ------------------------------ End of sheryl-crew-digest V4 #2 *******************************
