September 2000. It was a really thick one with a b/w cover and a model with dark long hair on the front. And an article about girl groupies. It cost 2,70 pounds Well I looked trough the whole edition and couldn't find any Sheryl Crow pics. Is this the wrong issue? Is there another one? Could someone buy it for me in return for some bootlegs or something? The 14-track offering is produced by Rick Rubin, who also manned the helm for Cash's previous pair of Grammy winners, 1994's American Music and 1997's Unchained. Solitary Man repeats Rubin and Cash's proven formula of complementing the country legend's chilling baritone with a clutch of outstanding contemporary performers and songs. Players joining Cash this time out include Tom Petty, Sheryl Crow, Merle Haggard, Randy Scruggs, Mary Stuart, Will Oldham (of Palace and Bonnie Prince Billy), and June Carter Cash. Along with five Cash originals, the set list features tunes by U2 ("One"), Oldham ("I See a Darkness"), Nick Cave and Mick Harvey ("The Mercy Seat"), Petty and Jeff Lynne (the Travelling Wilburys' hit "I Won't Back Down"), and the Neil Diamond-penned title track. "The song is the thing that matters," writes Cash in the liner notes to Solitary Man. "Before I can record, I have to hear it, sing it, and know that I can make it feel like my own, or it won't work. I worked on these songs until I felt like they were my own." "The weight of Johnny's performance shines new light on familiar tunes," Rubin concurred in a statement. "The seriousness of the lyrics are revealed for the first time. He has a way of singing a song you know and making it brand new. Solitary Man includes material you'd always wished you could hear Johnny sing." Can't wait till Oct. 17 to hear it? Then bust out the turntable — a special vinyl version of the album is slated to hit stores in late September. Solitary Man track list 1. I Won't Back Down 2. Solitary Man 3. That Lucky Old Sun 4.
